Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
I have no idea what I just read but it was awesome. I may write a real review later but wow. I'm kind just happy this exists lol .

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
Despite all the shade that was thrown at this book prior to its release, it turned out pretty good. Rae Sremmurd didn't try to be heroes, and Jack didn't try to rap. Not your traditional team up, but it worked without it being looked at as an "Elseworld" type of thing, it's actually in continuity, and the art was amazing, and the story comes full circle at the end for a certain character, I thought that was a nice touch...

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
This was done really well, it was easy to dismiss as *SQUEE* so I'm glad they nailed it. I enjoyed the story a lot, relating Jack, Robert Johnson and Rae actually worked and made a lot of sense. I could see this issue happening without Rae being involved and VEI using a fictionalized version of them, (ala fake Justin Bieber from A&A). I was pleasantly surprised by Dr Mirage being involved too.
The dialog wasn't perfect but I'd say overall a good issue. To me if let like a self contained issue of Vertigo's Hellblazer, which is pretty much what I keep hoping Shadowman would be more like anyway. Art was gorgeous, I'm really digging Guedes painted style, I especially liked the paintings of Robert Johnson.

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
Guedes' artwork and coloring is absolutely breath-taking in this one.
The boatman scene is fantastic.
The Robert Johnson cameo.
Fanastic stuff!
I like this issue. Mostly for the art but the story isn't too bad either.

I enjoyed the heck out of it. The art was stunning and it was just a fun, little one-shot that nailed it in every way. I also liked that stabbing spear thing that Shadowman was rockin'.

Pleasantly surprised. Wasn't sure what to make of this when I first heard about it, but it was a nice one shot with terrific art.

Looking forward to reading it and super pleased that it is well-received. I still think this one jumped the shark, but pleased nevertheless.

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
I finally got to pick this up last night and read it. I thought it was pretty darn good. Art was nice. Nice to see Dr. Mirage again too. One other nice thing... it felt great to have a whole story contained in a single issue instead of forcibly spread out over 3-5 issues of an arc! Nice Robert Johnson connection (I love the movie Crossroads that touches on this same story matter!). Very enjoyable overall, and a nice taste of Shadowman again after Rapture, and leading up to his new series next march, which I'm looking forward to.

From the sound of things, this is in continuity? That was the one thing really holding me back... that and I have no clue who Rae Slumberbed are.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
I see no reason to think it's not in continuity, and I'm not sure any of us know who Rae are, it doesn't really matter because the book tells you what you need to know.Keith wrote:From the sound of things, this is in continuity? I had no clue what Rae Sremmurd was before this, but I think this story worked even if it had just been written with original characters.

Agreed. The story was not particularly dependent on who they are.mateo107 wrote:I had no clue what Rae Sremmurd was before this, but I think this story worked even if it had just been written with original characters.

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
The more I think on this the more hype I am. The art was great, story self-contained. It was emotional, it hit on everything Shadowman in this incarnation should be about while sorta paying homage to old shadowman, best Shadowman comic in VEI so far to be honest.

Re: Shadowman / Rae Sremmurd #1
It was good... I agree it doesn't matter who Rae Sremmurd are, because the story isn't about them as much as they are the object being used. I did almost get a "Feel My Power" vibe from Jack, though.

This was pretty great, IMO. Felt more like the the original Valiant Shadowman than anything put out by VEI so far. The art was amazing! The story was simple yet entertaining. I really liked it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this issue, and would definitely place it in my top 5 under VEI, but I'm curious, have you read Shadowman #0 & #10? Highly Recommended!!otomo wrote:The more I think on this the more hype I am. The art was great, story self-contained. Surprisingly good. I want to see more VEI stories by Eliot Rahal.
