Ninjak #26 Discussion

If anyone would like to hear our OTV:VCR podcast discussing/reviewing this issue [and Generation Zero #9], please follow the link;

http://onlythevaliant.com/episodes/vcr113/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks to any who listen in :thumb:

NOTE! This episode features something unique in the annals of OTV:VCR history - Softcore Jeff did the show solo!!

Due to some technical difficulties in the 11th hour, Jeff took one for the team & recorded a raw, stripped down review on his own in order to get something together to keep our streak alive. Every single wednesday that has featured a new release Valiant book over the last 2+ years, VCR has been right there with ya as a companion review show.

What a great issue and wrap up. So many characters and factors in play. While reading it, I had one of those great comic book moments "Oh man, how is Ninjak gonna get out of this?!" I felt like I was twelve again.

What's up with the panel where his eyes flash green? :hm:

I assumed we were gonna see him looking through his super sciency contact lenses, but no.

Decent end to a so-so arc. Had to re-read #25 the first page of #26 totally threw me! Turns out #26 was Colin explaining events. Was glad I read both issues back to back as it was more enjoyable.

How and what did Ninjak spit in Roku's face? How was that possible through the mask? Was it lazy art?

Was surprised that Darque was blown up at the end, I thought he'd at least escape regenerated. Nice touches at the end for Sandria and Roku.

4/5 for the issue (3/5 for the arc)

Top marks to Jeff for going solo and keeping the run going :thumb:

You sure? They show her from behind carrying off a briefcase (presumably with Nicodemo's remains in it) and also in the reflection on a guy's biohazard mask, on I think the third to last page.

Might presage some of his mystical powers actually coming through, Darque did want to siphon off of him like the others and unlike Fakir or Roku we don't normally see Ninjak use any supernatural abilities, so perhaps whatever the Undead Monk gave to him is dormant inside and he doesn't know how to tap into it.

Yeah, my second guess was his "magic", whatever it is. The Magpie referenced it in Deadside.

There's a panel in there where his eyes glow like a psiot.
Also, the way Segovia draws Ninjak is freakin' perfect. So good.

Lastly, loved the Softcore Power Hour.
Softcore Jeff isn't fooling anybody. He's as hardcore as they come.

Ok, I finally read this via the trade. Overall I liked this arc even tho I was tempted to pass on it, I'm kinda tired of the Ninjak/Darque story. It's an odd fit. And I'm not sure the payoff has been worth it so far. But I did like this! Nice art and fun story with the Seven Blades and everything.

But I have a big question, why is Neville Alcott all beat up looking in this issue? What happened? His last appearance is in #23 and he's fine. Next appearance in #26 and he's all beat up and bandaged up? What did I miss? I feel so stupid.

Just read this arc in one sitting, pretty solid overall, but I feel like the Shadow Seven were a bit overused during Kindt's run....

Ninjak keeps trying to save Roku, bruh, she don't wanna be saved... :lol:

Sandria's involvement was the highlight for me, I wish they'd do more with her...

I was certain the OnlytheValiant podcast crew would pick up on it but Jeff was fling solo. Usually they pick up on everything that goes completely over my head. But I am losing my mind over this, lol! I'm guessing it happened in another title maybe?

Does anybody know!!?? ANYBODY?!

My theory is Neville "fell down the stairs" after his significant other had too much wine that one night.

Or, he was in a bar fight, that apparently, took place off panel... :lol:
