Gilad, the scars, and the Immortal Enemy
This is just speculation... not actually a spoiler (unless I accidentally guess it).
Gilad is first shown in X-O Manowar #1 (not named, but later confirmed by VEI), and he has the 3-line scar on his face.
Later, Gilad is shown with the 3-line scar on his face again, but the scar switched sides.
At some point (I believe it was a VEI panel at a comic con), it was stated that Gilad can heal, some wounds take longer, and the scar switching sides occurred at different times.
So...
The symbol for the Immortal Enemy is a Phoenix (appropriate for an immortal enemy), but I'm thinking it's the Immortal Enemy who keeps giving Gilad the 3-line scar.
3-lines... like Wolverine (we've joked before), but also like... a bird claw.
The Immortal Enemy can morph into an actual Phoenix?

Or uses a weapon shaped like a bird claw on the endgreg wrote:This is just speculation... not actually a spoiler (unless I accidentally guess it).

Waiting to see this explained, as well.

If Immortal Enemy is again Asian like his (or her, who knows with VEI) VH1 counterpart, A thrice pronged bladed weapon (like Wolverine's claws) Was quite common place, known as "Claw daggers" or a three bladed Katar? Who knows, I'm just guessing.

Sounds interesting. If he can give Gilad scars that don't regenerate though, how did the original ones fade only to be replaced later by different ones that didn't fade? Why couldn't he get rid of them however he did before?

Re: Gilad, the scars, and the Immortal Enemy
This was not confirmed by VEI. VEI said that the scars heal and regenerate.
IMO, why would VEI put Gilads pic on the FCBD and the scars are the other way around.
I've posted this before and I was thinking that someone messed up in editing and maybe the FCBD image was flipped.

Gilad had scars in 408A.D. and has them in 2013... same scars, or a new (second) set?drmirage wrote:I've posted this before and I was thinking that someone messed up in editing and maybe the FCBD image was flipped.

Re: Gilad, the scars, and the Immortal Enemy
I think Warren or Fred said something about the scars reappearing whenever the Immortal Enemy is reborn (or something to that effect). Maybe they have a deeper connection than we realize?greg wrote:Gilad had scars in 408A.D. and has them in 2013... same scars, or a new (second) set?drmirage wrote:I've posted this before and I was thinking that someone messed up in editing and maybe the FCBD image was flipped.

Re: Gilad, the scars, and the Immortal Enemy
I wonder if the Immortal Enemy was the one who killed Gilad in the first place before Ivar activated the Boon (A&A #1)?BugsySig wrote:I think Warren or Fred said something about the scars reappearing whenever the Immortal Enemy is reborn (or something to that effect). Is the "portal" at the end of A&A #7 an opening to the Faraway?

When I visited the VEI headquarters during the NYCC, Dino offered a possible editorial explanation for the changing scars. I have since been sworn to secrecy.

Re: Gilad, the scars, and the Immortal Enemy
My guess is that it was an editorial mistake and they just came up with an explanation that sounded plausible.
Not as fun as some grand design, but more likely imho.

No spoilers, but I am really happy with the direction they went with the Immortal Enemy. Great concept and very well-executed in the issue.

I'm gonna start a blog and call it Valiant Voice. No! Valiant Vision. No, wait! Secrets of the Valiant Universe. Yeah, that's the ticket.

But in all seriousness, I am starting a blog soon. My first is going to be a retrospective on the first year of VALIANT in May. I have the whole thing laid out, including some history of VH1/Acclaim, summary and review of the titles, and sales figures. I just need to put it all together and add any new announcements as they come out (last week did not help to speed up the process ).

That's awesome! Let me know when it's posted and I'll tweet about it. My blog is forever waiting to be updated. I'm hoping to get my significant other interested enough in this week's books to record another podcast. I really want to talk about some Valiant with her soon.BugsySig wrote:I was thinking, "Only the Valiant."
