Doctor Mirage #1 - discussion

Post by Kizmitsun »

Hello,

I am very new to this board. I was looking through all of the posts for discussion and could not find a Doctor Mirage one anywhere. If I am wrong please correct me. This is looking to be my #2 favorite comic of Valiant with reading the story. I could not wait to get my hands on it, and I was not disappointed. I can not wait for issue 2. The direction the story is going with the female lead character leads a strong story line. How the story gives you to want so much more at the end makes me sorry I read it so soon with not being able to get the next issue for a bit. I want to see if I get any kind of response to this thread before I go and start talking story; don't want to ruin it for those who have not read it yet. I am, however, looking for someone I can talk story with.
Comics are the wave of the future. It forces people to read and imagine something more then their world they know. If everyone looked pass their reality, less violence would be an issue. Comics instead of war!

I'm sure it's fine to start this thread in advance on account of the full preview retailer edition being out. Discuss away, I say. This is a spoiler section, after all...

I've got a retailer copy as well but haven't read it yet!

I love this book. It is high on the list of "what I'm most excited to read next" list.

I can't wait until we do an OTV on it.

Ok so the way they ended the book as a cliff hanger killed me. I just want so much more. The book eluded to the idea that there is so much of a back story for the story. I hope that they writers give more of that story in the future. The hole talking to ghost part of the worth makes the main person seam more human, due to what she can do. The first book sets a great story of conflict within the person the story is about. The fact she does what she does for money makes her seem like a modern person using herself for money. I love the story what are your thoughts?

First issue made me think it'll be a great trade. So far, this feels like it's gonna make me far happier than most of Shadowman. This may be the companion piece that can help get Shadowman back on track.

With Shan around, and Darque out of deadside, I think the valiant occult world is about to become good. I'm so impressed by this book, I'm hoping the valiant occult world will be the lead of next summer's big crossover event.

The worst thing about this book, is that I got it early, and I have to wait longer for the next issue...
There, clear conscience, no spoilers, just accolades.

The more I think about this book, the more tragic the story seems.
Great emotion in this book.
It's feels like a movie.

I too have an advance copy but hesitate to read it, I think I want the plus edition!

I read Rai like that and was glad I did it really added to the story, especially the map!

Excited for what VanMeter has planned but want to experience it all at once :D

That map in rai was pretty poorly placed in the book. Impossible to actually put together, even if you do remove the pages.

DDDM is a WONDERFUL book for VEI. It fills the supernatural void left by the debacle which was Shadowman and does it masterfully. This first issue leaves us with more questions which is a hallmark of good writing which hooks you from the start. This book gives voice to a strong female lead who seems more than capable of carrying this title due to the tremendous art and story. Of all the VEI series, my favorites are Armor Hunters, XO, Rai and now DDDM. The only thing about such quality work as Armor Hunters and DDDM is that they are limited series so we have to enjoy them while we have them, which I have every intention of doing. Can't wait for the second issue of DDDM.

If you have a copy, don't hold out on reading it. It's very well done. Thoughtful, intriguing, a sense of history and mystery, and a lot of emotion. The art and coloring is beautiful, too.

I couldn't help but get excited (hopefully it's not a false clue) that the demon-thing mentioning a pale lady means... Sandria!

I am so glad to know I am not alone with the hope of greatness this comic brings. The signs are there that the story will be fantastic. Even though it is a mini series I want more already. Wish I did not have to wait so long to read #2, but I am in. I will own every edition printed of this book. I just liked it to much not to own all of it. This makes me so hopeful for future titles and stories that VAI has for the fans in the future.

Very excited to finally get my hands on this comic - and it didn't disappoint.

It had the underlying creepiness, sense of black magic history and a sense of history within the main character - I love when I get a sense that the writer has a lot to say about a character and its history. And I think Jen Van Meter has really gone to great lengths to develop Dr. Mirage in a way that feels very real, very human, very much like someone we would know if we knew someone who had mystical powers that talks to the dead.

RDLT style was much more sketchy than normal .. but still full of little details and full of imagination in his imagery. He might be more perfect for this title than he was with Shadowman which will always feel like more of a superhero book and I think RDLT excels more when it comes to noir, dark storytelling like this.. I think his work will look even better when they are within the deadside.

Haven't read the Plus edition extra's yet .. but did take a peak and I didn't see a deadside map :( which was a little disappointing. Maybe they will have something in the next issue...

pretty solid story. Looking forward to the next issue. This is a solid supernatural book that looks like it will go deeper down the rabbit hole as we go longer. Looking forward to Hwen showing up.

I also obtained my LCS advance copy and read it last night.
I feel so much more connected Shan in this issue than all the issues of Shadowman to date for Jack.

Someone upthread said it had good emotion and I agree with that.
Shan really resonates as a troubled soul herself. One whose love is lost to her. When her unique ability is to speak to souls on the other side and yet the one soul she wants to communicate with eludes or is kept from her. You feel her need to only "work" in order to stablize her life, keep a roof over her head and hold onto the one place where she and her love, Hwen, her husband used as Sanctuary.

It teases a morally questionable 1%(?) individual who works for the government. A person she'd normally refuse but the case offers possible insight into solving her own personal enigma.

My LCS edition read straight though with no ads. The RAI Plus edition had the extra content stuck right in the middle and I felt that disturbed the flow of the book. I'm going to also pick up the DM Plus edition but I'm glad to have the Retailer Preview copy!

Beautiful. Well drawn and colored. The story is compelling and intriguing. Can't wait for the next issue. I'm so glad they revived this title. I'm thrilled with what Van Meter is doing.

I got the plus version. Nice concept to have the comic-book adventure style tale of Linton March. That's likely how he pictured himself, but the actual story will reveal a different nature. He's an interesting character. Ah human nature. It's telling that Shan would trust a demon over a man - but then again, you already know the demon will deceive you. The same can be said about March, but the how and why will be the unknown.

Reading into the directory, you'll see little touches like how Hwen researched ecto-resistant fabrics - ties in nicely with what Shan said about her outfit behaving like armor due to Hwen's wards.
