Prized Comic Storage & Source Questions

Sun Aug 23, 2015 8:57:55 pm

1. What products do you use to store your most prized books?

2. What online source do you use to get them from?

3. Do they fit in a standard cardboard long/short comic box with the lid on and you can stack something on top of the box without damaging your prized books?

Thanks!

I am probably with most people. I use regular boards with ultra resealable silver age bags. All are stored in DrawerBoxes.

My preference, however, after buying numerous collections, are mylites. I think I might isolate my $100+ books and use mylites on them. It will take me forever to get around to this though.

I suppose my real preference is to slab them. That's what I do with my best books.

I assume you mean Mylite2. The "single ply" Mylites are too thin and crinkly for $100+ books. I use Mylite2 on some $3 books.

Thanks guys! I have heard others talk about MyLites and full backs and half backs. Does anyone have an online source that they prefer?

I've purchased from ready-set-collect on ebay, but if you're looking to buy in bulk you should look into buying direct from egerber at http://www.egerber.com/default.asp

I did that one time. I called, the phone rang a while... some guy finally answered with heavy machinery sounds in the background. I got the impression I was talking (yelling) to the foreman wearing a hardhat and he was writing my order on a spiral pocket-sized notebook with greasy hands.

Got my stuff. :thumb:

I use half-backs and Mylites2 (standard size). Important books get two boards... others, just one. It's a good option.

Has anyone ever had problems with the Mylite2 flap causing an indentation on the top of the comic behind it?

I've never noticed that. But I don't pack them tightly in short boxes, so it would be unlikely for my books.

Some of my best CGC submissions have come from comics stored in Mylites. That being said, that could be attributed to the level of care of that collector (one who prizes nice storage material) over the material itself. I've never noticed any indentations when there is sufficient backing board material. I will say, that collector also included several backing boards in each mylite.

I'm using Mylite 2's with fullbacks now (Usually 2 books to a bag and board, front and back) and about a 3/4th inch strip of scotch magic tape to seal the flap with the bottom tip of tape folded over about 1/8 an inch to make a tab.

There is nothing else out there like it. Fullbacks inspire confidence for me, not just from being stronger than 5 or more half-backs, but also from the extra absorption qualities (vs halfbacks) that I believe it possesses.

I've ordered straight bulk from egerber also. It was not a confidence inspiring experience when giving them my credit card info over the phone  but everything came out perfect in the end and it was received in the mail about 3 weeks later. :thumb:

I keep my drek in polybags and cheap boards. Anything I value (not always due to cost) goes into a mylite2 with a fullback. If you order in bulk you can get the cost below $1 per bag/board set.

I did keep mine in boxes but was timid someone would steal them.
So i keep them on me.
I used to fold them and put them in my back pocket but that got to time consuming so now I just roll them up like a newspaper.
Fits perfect in the pocket now.
