Don't know about prices of lego, but while looking at sets recently not in production anymore ~ their is a price spike, boxed new. 150% of purchase price and upwards.

I did some hunting, but stopped as I decided on a lego set still in production as the best peice of the line theme.

Have no idea about used sets, if it is complete in a nice box, I have seen 5 year old sets that are part of a theme go for near original price (which is a good return, seeing as someone has made it, played with it ~ kept the box and papers ~ and sold it for what they got it for).

Just a bit of business info from financial papers could help with value of Lego sets. From 2000 ~ 2004? 2005 they had massive problems. New CEO turned the company arround and made it what it is today ~ back in popular culture. So sets from 2000~ 2004 if they are end of line sets before the new kickstart could be more current sets worth money.

Buying the Parisian Resturant Today, for my daughter.

For my 40th birthday ~ I said straigth to my wifes face ~ All the valiant hardcovers, and showed her the amazon website, and made her take notes.

So it looks like I will get another tie facepalm

A lot of Lego sets increase in price once they retire. Sometimes the price increase is dramatic. The last millennium Falcon set retailed for $150. A week after it was retired, the cheapest set on eBay was $250. A few years back there was a Super Star Destroyer that sold for $350. You might be able to get one for $1000 now. I think the Ghostbusters firehouse will have the same value. The good thing about it is that once a set retires it never comes back out. They might do an updated version, but the original will keep it's value.

Of course, this goes for unopened sets. If you like to build/play with them the return won't be as great. Still, if it's old enough you can probably still sell it for what you initially paid. Overall, Lego is a good investment.

Looking at ebay for Parisian Restaurant. One for sale, used. Ripped box fixed with brown packing tape. Says its 100% complete.

Current bid £102.00 not including postage £8.50 (from memory) = £110 SO far ~ auction not over.

THought thats stupid high. Brought it direct from lego just now £132.99 free postage. Included was an extra item (promotional item £5? £8? gift) ~ before I purchased I signed up for the VIP programe and earned 132 points approxamalty £7 gift voucher.

So £132.99 with free postage and £15 worth of extras.

Some people on ebay have no idea.

wait :o how much do you spend to get that VIP point.

Don't answer that you will scare yourself.

First point of helping with your problem, is acknowledging you have a problem.

I stopped worrying about my points when VEI started publishing again in 2012. I also banned myself from the Lego Store. facepalm Only been there two or three times since. It's never pretty when I leave.. to my wallet that is. :censored:

That's always the problem when you have more than one hobby. I got burnt out on the large number of VEI variants so that solved the problem for me.

So form my post above I asked for lego, just something fun, for my 40th . And valiant hardcovers!

Got the hardcovers, which is cool.
Then a shirt I will never wear, ever. Some lotion and a daypack.
It was good to get the daypack, so I could put the shirt and lotion in it and pack for storage.

Still, thought that counts. Rockin the valiant hardcovers ~ my wife wondered why I wanted them if I have the comics already. I said easier to read, and you can look at the shelf ~ see whats missing and buy them for me for Christmas.

So I was buying some replacement pieces that had been damaged.
the total came to £1.99 + £2 postage (or all free if I used my VIP points)

Free shipping if you spend £50

So I brought another £49 on lego to get the free shipping facepalm saving points for latter.

i generally catch a bunch on clearence at target and wm every year and toss them in the closet for 9 months or so then start listing branded stuff does well normally 200 plus percent over retail as stock dries up

Yes the taj is back in stock.

A a present for my daughter I got her lego Ninjago city set 70620. She wanted it but didn't have the money, so we agreed that she would not get pocket money untill her birthday (jan) and she gave me the money she had saved. So she paid for 2/5 of it.

Was going to buy it and keep for her birthday in Jan anyway, in case it sold out. But now she has it, trying so hard at school ~ she deserves it.

And so do I , I brought some lego technic. remote controlled 6x6 all-terrain vehicle. I never buy things for myself ~ so I thought YEAH, I want it, get it. Plus my son can use it as a remote controlled car (most cars to fast forhim to manage, even a farm truck he cannot do due to speed) But I aw video of this, two birds one stone.

TALKING ABOUT investing in lego, do you think the technic Porsche or Bugatti is worth keeping for later? Was thinking of buying the Porsche just to resell latter. Not everyone can afford the Porsche, but they can get the lego!!!

Technic is not the best type of lego to invest in though. Only thought of it because of the branded Porsche connection.
