All great books IMO. I collect them all and have been very satisfied with them so far. The books are cheap more or less to begin with (well try getting a cheap Miracle on Broadway (but I did here recently) and the fun of these DUs is 'the hunt'. And besides, once you finish Valiaint what do you do then ?

Welcome... sit down and read for a while there are some great threads here.

Must do more research first...I am sure once I get the bug that hunt will be on for the variants as well :!:

Still a long way loooong way from that especially in high grade (NM++) but its coming...slowly but surely! Still strying to tackle Modern/Copper/Silver Age Keys :!:

Well I do not let NM high grade bug me in the least. I like to have nice looking Valiant, Crossgen and Continuity books but that is it. And even then I have some not so great looking Valiant, Crossgen and Continuity books i.e. my Turok EB Games variant looks like a tank went over it. LOL But I have it, so no big deal... if I find another someday in better shape, then it all works out... if not. I still got it.

Now on the Dead Universe side of the house... going bin diving is a MUST to get some of these issues in the DU because the LCS owners just do not carry them any longer and if they DO they probably have some outrageous sticker price... "Oh, this is a gold foil issue... it's SPECIAL" blah blah, "I'll give you a buck for it." :)

But to finish well let me rephrase that, in my attempt to finish some of my DUs, I have dug throgh plenty of on teh floor boxes of unbagged books. At times I think... NM ? WTF is that ?

Any chance of that Milestone sticky?

On that note the TPB's are very scarce through ebay and Amazon right now.

On Tue Oct 11, 2005 11:20 am, I was brougt back to life as a bettere man on this message board by being afforded the opportunity to have this section called Dead Universes by the Greg 'Mandingo' Holland. That 'other guy' I used to be as Knightt_333 was gone, put to sleep and out to pasture. Not only that but I was given Dead Universes to stomp around in.

I want to thank Greg for allowing the opportunity and I want to thank all of my fellow DU Mongers out there for making this (from what I can tell) one of the best Dead Universe forums on the internet.

We have weekly discussions and input on SOMETHING that is relevant to any one of the numerous and growing DU's and we are getting new DUs here pretty soon (I just need a breather and some time from this new job) AND new 'members' are being sucked into DU collection.

I just wanted to thank EVERYONE who participates, the guy who made this possible and thank me (ha ha) for not being that 'other guy' any longer.

In the UK you have to go through a process of name change by deed poll, and it seems like a hassle.

On a realated note, a guy was on the radio a few minutes ago having resistered his son's name as Superman. His first choice was declined by the registrar (he said the first choice was '4 real', using the numeral, and it was the numeral that meant he couldn't register that name... :o ).

Any thoughts of whether we could add a Red Circle (80's Archie superheroes/MLJ) stickied issue list?
I copied this from wikipedia, I'll admit. I don't think there were any variants, and then there is the factor of the recent (1999 onwards) Archie books featuring the Crusaders/MLJ heroes.

80's Red Circle:
The Black Hood (June 1983 - October 1983) 3 issues
Blue Ribbon Comics (November 1983 - December 1984) 14 issues
The Comet (October 1983 - December 1983) 2 issues [was to be a six issue mini-series]
The Fly (May 1983 - October 1984) 9 issues
Lancelot Strong: The Shield (June 1983 - August 1983) 2 issues, retitled Shield-Steel Sterling
Mighty Crusaders (March 1983 - September 1985) 13 issues
Original Shield (April 1984 - October 1984)
Shield-Steel Sterling (December 1983) 1 issue (#3), retitled Steel Sterling
Steel Sterling (January 1984 - July 1984) 4 issues (#4-7)

Archie comics appearances:
Archie's Weird Mysteries Halloween ashcan (Sept 1999)
Archie & Friends and The Shield 2002
Archie's Weird Mysteries #3 w/THE MIGHTY CRUSADERS!

I think there is another AWM issue with the Crusaders and there are 3 TPB's of 40's/60's material (Fly, Shield, Mighty Crusaders).

Thoughts?

Hmmmm keep reminding me (via PMs) and I will make this a sticky. Red Circle comics are great (for their time).

I am waiting for a bundle to arrive. well tewo bundles actually. Since you recommended mycomicshop I have been buying far too much....

What about having a Red Circle/Impact combined sticky? two diffrent interpretations of the characters, but within a few years of each other so maybe useful?

Impact
The Black Hood (12 issues, plus annual)
The Comet (18 issues, plus annual)
The Crusaders (8 issues)
The Fly (17 issues, plus annual)
Impact Winter Special (one-shot)
The Jaguar (14 issues, plus annual)
The Legend of the Shield (16 issues, plus annual)
The Web (14 issues, plus annual)

Impact Who's Who (3 issues, plus binder)

Crucible (6 issues, wrapped up line, takes place after the cancellation of the first 7 titles)

Nah, seperate stickies... that lends to discussions (hopefully) about EACH. I noticed that my LCS has quite a few of the Impact! titles in the 50 for $5.00 bucks bins. A bit beat up at times, but then again these would be LOW on my list... even below re-drywalling my hallway.

Not a fan? I would highly recommend the Black Hood, followed by the Fly and then either Crusaders or Jaguar. The Comet was okay as was Legend of the Shieled. The Web is largely in my collection for completeness and the fact that the premise is that the WEB organisation is supposed to be a little like Impact's 'glue' as it were. Those first two books I mentioned though (Black Hood and the Fly are worth a read as full runs) if you haven't already tried them.

Legend of the Shield... is that at all related to The Shield from Red Circle Comics ?

Visually the most alike from the Red Circle to Impact iterations. They kind of pay homage to earlier Shields and the idea of earlier Shields (although not the MLJ/Red Circle stories as such) in a series of short stories in the Impact annuals.
