Well this book is a lot more rare than I thought. You almost never see it for sale. The COA says it was limited to 500, but I messaged back and forth today with the guy who put this package together and he says the actual number is less than 30. He was the one who stamped them and put the package together as a "thank you" to certain retailers, so he would know. He quit not long after Marvel bought the company; he says the rest of the COAs were tossed.

What's funny is the COA states 500, the comic states 5000, and the actuality is 30!

I know a certain Dynasuck company that has done the same thing for decades. :hm: :P

But for an Ultraverse book, I'll give this one a HUGE congrats!

This one is a by-product of Marvel buying Malibu and then dumping the whole thing. The guy who was Malibu's marketing manager would put a little package of goodies together including this book. He said he wouldn't stamp them until they were going out, although all the COAs were done ahead of time. Not long after that everybody else left, and tons of Ultraverse incentive books were thrown in the trash including this stuff.

The 5,000 number is something that was done with every Ultraverse No. 1, just a limited version of a book with some foil on it (like the Valiant gold books).

I've been trying for years to find out just how much stuff was tossed and what happened to the rest.

I need to stay away from that. I don't need another addiction. I really like Ultraverse a lot. It rivaled my Valiant love.

When I saw the title of the thread, this issue was my guess.

Still quite something to see, though. :thumb:

Does that mean that all my old ultraverse books are suddenly rare.? I have a lot of the premium books because I knew one of the higher-ups in the company. LOL

Whoa.

I really need to get some of those. They were a holy grail item when I was first collecting.

It's pretty easy to put together a set of silvers for $40 or less. Golds are considerably harder. I expect the next Strangers or Hardcase gold on eBay to go well past $100.

But yeah, back in the day these were such a huge deal. So damn nice looking, too.

I nearly bought a collection based solely on a set of these being in there. Then I went to ebay and saw how cheap they are...

I have nothing like that! Lol. I was never big in Ultra verse but I know I have a few of the ones stamped "5000" and only 3 or 4 holograms. I know I had "The Stangers" stamped and the silver (I never even knew there was a gold version) because I liked them. I think I have a Prime silver and Freex stamped, but I will have to dig. I had no idea any of this was worth hanging onto. Glad I found this thread!

I honestly did not know that "gold" versions of the Holographic #1's existed until recently

The "rarest" things I have when it comes to Ultraverse are a handful of Newsprint editions of various titles, the Prototype #1 Steve Englehart misprint included

Dang Depluto! :o I still need a few golds for my set, I have some extras of Mantra and Free-X if you're up for a trade? I've also noticed these have sold quick briskly recently, and X-O's 9.8s are pretty cheap considering how hard these are to find in 9.8.

I should find out how much my bonus is this week. I'll definitely take you up on that if I get what I should be getting.

$45 for a full set is a good price, IMO. Definitely cheaper (and much easier) than buying them one at a time once you factor in shipping.

I'm holding on to my extra golds for now ... bought them a few years back and they are in unbelievably flawless condition.

Ya if they're NM/MT you'll never know what the price could be on that....these things have seen an uptick in activity, and they are pretty damn rare. Too bad I didn't see anymore of those finds where I bought the group of golds from that guy that had them in storage.

Sure let me know, I'm shipping from Canada so the cost is probably gonna run me 15-20 alone. I'm willing to give a boardie a deal, just lightening up on some books.

If anyone wants one of the golds I'll do $50 shipped for a gold Mantra - limit one per customer. I think I have about 6 or 7 extras left, and one extra Free-X.
