I think this is pretty cool ... Print run of 200, all with a book signed by Rick Hoberg (Strangers artist) and a hand-drawn sketch by Hoberg on the COA.

I don't know for sure ... I've picked up about 10 over the years, usually for a few bucks a pop. The 9.4 is impressive; so many of these look as if they were set down on a couch and then sat on.

There is another run of signed Ultraverse books (with Malibu COAs) of 2,000 each. These show up on eBay about as often as those.

So how did you guys feel about the Ultraverse getting shoe-horned into the Infinity Gem saga?
Following the cancellation of the Infinity Watch series, in the one-shot title Rune/Silver Surfer the Gems are stolen by the extradimensional vampire Rune and dispersed throughout the alternate universe Ultraverse. The Asgardian god Loki enters the Ultraverse and collects the Gems, also discovering the existence of a seventh Gem - Ego. The character learns the Infinity Gems were originally part of a gestalt being known as Nemesis. The Ego Gem, possessing the Avenger Sersi, merges with the other Gems to reform Nemesis and battles superhero teams the Avengers and Ultraforce, before being dissipitated once again.

It was no worse than what was happening to the rest of the Ultraverse.

I do like to bring up the 7th Infinity Gem any time some kid starts telling me about the Infinity Gauntlet because of the movies.

Still though, making Rune Warlock's "darker half" was kind of stupid

I will absolutely agree that was bad but there was worse happening among its contemporaries. Have you ever read Phoenix Resurrection? I have not finished it. I think the Mantra reboot was worse than anything they were doing with Rune and Warlock at the time as well.

I also heard that they pretty much neutered Prime to the point where he was no different from Hyperion or Sentry

Were either Hyperion or Sentry in publication in 1994?

Prime was ok but out of the first three titles, it was the one I liked the least. I re-read the first year or two of Hard Case a few years ago and it still holds up pretty well even though the fashion is more glaringly a product of its time than a lot of the other contemporary comics I have re-read. Part of me thinks that they overlooked one of their best books when they did not include Hard Case in the reboot and part of me is happy to see him spared the indignation. Hard Case did eventually show up in UH2 but he was the Hard Case from UH1 and it was because he was telling them about their universe breaking apart.

Are the Ultraforce #0A and #0B editions that were polybagged with Wizard normal comic size?

I remember when someone did a Warlock mini-series (I want to say it was Tom Lyle but I could be wrong) after that mess openly admitted that he hated it and threw it under the bus.

Hyperion was around in various books like Quasar and The Avengers, and he was in a Squadron Supreme graphic novel (I can't remember the name of it) showing what happened to them when they returned to their original universe and how it changed without them there.

Sentry didn't appear until his first series under the Marvel Knights imprint.

Lighthearted fun. The first couple of years are the medium of comics applied correctly. It all went downhill pretty fast once Marvel got involved.

The best read in my opinion is Hard Case and that is a good place to start. Prime was directed at a little younger audience.

Hardcase, Prime, Strangers, Nightman, Mantra and Rune are all worthy reads. Exiles had some moments too. Prototype, Sludge, Solitaire and Gun Shy are probably better left unread. I'm probably forgetting a few titles...it's been a long time.

Mantra was good but a little heavy on the cheesecake. At least they did it well, that includes some early Adam Hughes work.

Just saw a post that Marvel dumped a bunch of Ultraverse books in a dumpster after acquiring the acquisition.

That bible is Version 1.6 ... there were dozens of revisions over the years, but most of those guys didn't keep them since it was just a stack of photocopies.

As far as the Day of the Dumpster, it seems there are a couple of stories. The first involves Malibu employees swinging by the warehouse to pick up extra copies of books they worked on before Marvel disposed of all the clutter. The second involves a locked closet at the office that was full of incentive books that was emptied into a dumpster (this was many months after the Day of the Warehouse).

I also have some stories and suspicions than I can only share in person.
