What DUs are you collecting ?

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

What DUs are you collecting ?

Post by Knightt »

Can't find a thread on this, or I missed it but I 'just' put together a list of DUs that I am collecting and I am SHOCKED by how many are actually on my list. Here goes:

Comic book Ashcans (does not matter who it is from, if it is an ashcan... I want it)

Image
Triumphant Comics
Crossgen
Milestone (DC)
Majestic Entertainment
Tekno Comics
Malibu – Genesis
Comico
Ultraverse
AC Comics
Valiant
Acclaim
Innovation
First
Eclipse
Defiant
Continuity
IDW
Future Comics
Entity
Event
Broadway Comics
Red Circle/Archie Adventure Series
PC Comics
Comics Greatest World
Black Bull Comics
Dagger Comics
Harris Comics
Continum
MARVEL (various)

And I am thinking that I am missing a few here as well. I think I count 27 but I also have to consider that I am not collecting EVERYTHING from companies like Eclipse, Marvel, First, Innovation, Comico etc. But still... it is building up at a nice clip. Enough so that I am needing to buy at least 5 short boxes to start storing my 'stuff' and my shelf unit to store my comics has no more room. I now have two storage shelfs FULL, books in my half of my two door closet and books on the floor by the shelving units.

I think I need some rehab !!!

How bout you ? What DU fix to 'you' need ?

Already updated as I forgot to add Tekno Comics.

Valiant complete
Accliam complete

Hunting
Tekno
Defiant
New Eagle (uk)

Not all the universe select tittles of Ultraverse,
Crossgen trades ~ not sure if I will collect this intirely. As the collected of multiple titles are a bit annoying. Prefer one title per tade.

Holy Macaroni!

I'm holding my stuff close and looking for stuff I want/need. Just the key books. Nothing ordinary.

Was working on an Eclipse Marvel Man run. That's more of a passive thing. Not actively hunting or scouring the internet for it. KIMOTA!

When I get the urge, I buy a TMNT CGC 9.8 to add to the collection. Nothing major. Already have a reader set. Missing first prints of 1 and 2.

Completed an Albedo set. Need to get a CGC set now.

Need to assess my Liberty Meadows collection/set. Not sure what I need. Totally need to get some CGC'd books.

I've been buying trades these days. Last few purchases:

Marvel Man Classics - Reprints the old 60's stuff. Totally kids books. Got this for the "library."
DC Showcase Presents: The Unknown Soldier - Reprints Star Spangled War Stories. Sometimes you need to read about that squad of grunts sticking it to the 3rd Reich.
Cerebus: Church and State Vol 1 - Not as good as High Society. Still a decent read and entertaining.
Still have a lot on my want to read plate.

Don't we do these lists periodically? Anyway, here's mine:

Valiant
Acclaim
AK Comics
Teshkeel Comics
Continuity
Majestic
Triumphant
Kevlar Studios
Bravura
Genesis (Malibu)
Atlas
Dagger
Defiant
Broadway
Continüm
Ultraverse
Pacific
CGW
!mpact
2099
New Universe
Windjammer
Armada
Innovation
Topps
Comico
First
Capital
NOW
Tekno/Big Entertainment
Lightning
Virgin

I am also putting together some character sets - Cerebus, Grendel, Mighty Mutanimals and Groo. Just for the hell of it.

I really need to track down an Eclipse checklist someday and add that to the big master list. And I need to update my master list in the main master list thread.

As the lists wax and wane... a periodical revisit is pretty fun. Especially, when you see someone's list grow and you can see evidence of 'the sickness'.

I am working on an imprint DU right now - the UN Force related stuff from Foundation Studios through Caliber/Gauntlet.

It loooks like 3 or so titles with interconnected characters. Let's see wher I go with that.

I was collecting Broadway, Crossgen, CGW/DHH and Defiant for a while but I ended up getting rid of two of them. I'm considering going back to just CGW/DHH, (Crossgen is almost too pretty and well written to get rid of) as all I need for CGW/DHH is a single issue of Ghost volume two, and some of the variants/trades. The desire is there for more DU's but the $$$ isn't. Maybe one day, again.

I would definitely stay with CGW, I think that line and even the current line coming out of Dark Horse is just incredible.

Bud, Dead Universe comics more on the average are just plain CHEAP and we do this thing around here every once in a while called Comic Karma, where you do a call out for a book or some books and if anybody has them as extras, you might get them. Now the idea is to pass that forward one day as many here in the DU are dedicated to helping others complete their collections.

Just as long as people don't abuse it and keep posting that they are now getting into something new and expect free books to come their way, things work out. I think that the idea is that good feeling 'when' you GIVE. I ALWAYS am willing to pay for what I am looking for (as long as it is reasonable, and DUs are reasonable). So put up a post of your needs list and someone may bite ? I would say just don't come up with a new 'oh man these are great, can somebody send me these for free' and you will be great. If you have dupes of something or no longer want them ? Pass them on to someone who would appreciate them. I pray that when the scales are evaluated at the end of the day, I will have given more than I have received.

Also, you can never go wrong with trading. :thumb:
