I say definitely on the ones with Malibu certs and also the Prime/Hulk, Nightman/Wolverine and Exiles/X-Men, as far as the official list goes and to complete an Ultraverse run "100 percent."

I would say the others are just books I'm interested in and trying to catalogue.

I would say that I have to agree here. The thing with DF though, is that there have been a few instances where a DF signed book also had a variant cover and at that point I consider putting them on the list. But too many times it is just the signed book with a jacked up price.

I am prone to just keeping it at 'books with a Malibu cert' or were manufactured by Malibu/Ultraverse. And I think that this stance comes from Valiant comics as in the only signed set that is acknowledged were the VVSS. Those were DIRECTLY from the company, nobody else involved and I would rather have it that way then to traipse the light fantastic over the globe looking for all of the nugatory signed books that were produced by another company. Yet, when there is an alternate cover... UGH !!! Example, I collect 'Punisher' books and I have a DF Vol 2 The Punisher #1 that has a totally different cover AND underneath the cover is my own bane as is kryptonite to Superman... and my bane is named, 'holofoil'. It is a SWEET looking cover !!!

I think we should have the 'master list' with only Malibu items/COAs accompany the signed book and item. Then have another list which represents all the nify 'other stuff' that was signed and put together by the aforementioned companies. This way to 'get to 100%' we stick to what the actual company put out... get 'em all, boom ya gots yer 100%. To be an Ultimate Completest, find all the other books on the list that were produced or put together by other companies, QVC, DF, American Entertainment, etc.

How does that sound ? (but those damned variant covers bug me)

(uh I think that is a lot of typing when I could have quoted Depluto and wrote 'ditto' )

And Draco, my friend... your avatar simply grosses me out every time I see it.

BTW, great list Depluto... I will update the master list, ASAP.

On the first one - there were two versions of that book and one came with a CoA with it. I think that's what is going on here.

I have the Exiles one myself already.

The Prime one is known to us already.

Were these not DF?

The Exiles one is like the Wolverine one I addressed in the last post - 2 versions (limited and ultra-limited) and one came with a CoA as a matter of course.

Are these 'official' comics memorabilia companies of sorts ? I think DF is an obvious pick as I remember these on QVC with the signers or lead person on the project. But I have no recollection of the others.

So, I am putting DF books in there (to include Malibu/Ultraverse/Marvel) for keeps but I think we should put it to a vote within this thread and the vote should include an answers as to why or why not. I think having that extra bit of information will be of use to the site and will be memorialized for future reference.

I am not including ANY LCS comic book signings, like "1,000 copies that came from (for example) stores like Depluto's Comic Book Store and Backyard Fence Repair" on the list.

So, let us come up with a consensus !!!

I am going to ask the following due to lack of information on my part. Are these signings like QVC or the present 'Graham Cracker' memorabilia ?

Do we add Beckett, Catalyst, Limited Treasured Editions and Presentime books to the Master List ?
We've had this conversation before. I still say DF and American Entertainment versions only.

What sets the Prime/Hulk, Nightman/Wolverine and Exiles/X-Men books apart is that they were unique issues, not just regular books that were signed. The "premium" books were without signatures, and the "super premium" books were all signed (with a couple of exceptions ... I have two that weren't), had different covers and came with COAs from either DF or AE.

Ok, I've looked over what I've got and didn't turn up anything new.

I do have a Catalyst signed Sludge with CoA.

Apologies to Draco for chiding like that in those last few posts - it just didn't click that you were chipping in for the sub-lists and I thought you were wanting to put them on the checklist.

Here's one that will make you crazy -

Image

Hard Case 3 with and without bar codes. The cover prices and cover art are the same.

Also, a neat little autographed Prototype advertisement that I ended up with from somewhere.

A little more info on newsstand versions, I pick them up if they have the CCA stamp on them.
Not all newsstand versions have the CCA stamp and none of the DM books do.
And here is a pic of a newsstand version that I think should be added to the main list

The Strangers 5 newsstand
<a href="http://s510.photobucket.com/albums/s350 ... s5news.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s350 ... s5news.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Compared to
The Strangers 5 direct
<a href="http://s510.photobucket.com/albums/s350 ... direct.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s350 ... direct.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

What do you guys think?

I don't think we should differentiate with a bar code or no bar code, we would be adding TOO many books. IF it had a price difference then yes (like the VALIANT Destroyer and Visitor issues, I know there are more but I am sticking with the original three newsstand editions). If we do that then we might as well go through all of New Universe as well, I know that I have a ton of New Universe books with Newsstand editions but that is the only difference.

I'd say only count on Direct Editions, UNLESS it has a different cover or has a price difference oh yeah and if a book is a newsstand issue but has different paper inside.

One of the better examples I can think of is The Protectors from Malibu. Just about each book had a newsstand edition and Direct Market edition, but the Direct Market editions had MUCH better covers. Now I have The Darkness (Image) in both direct and newsstand editions, the ONLY difference is that the newsstand editions do not have quality paper inside, just normal practically newspaper type paper.

Recently I went through and took out all of my Milestone newsstand editions, because the paper quality was not as great, but I am adding them back again.

Again, I would say, keep any newsstand editions and add them to a sublist but ONLY if there is a price difference, cover difference or a internal paper difference.

Am I rambling so early in the morning... I'm sure that I am as I am getting ready for my NEW JOB.... I'm taking to a NDL (notha different levol) :thumb:

Firstly i agree that it actually makes sense to only have the signed editions and premiums that were done by each publisher, so no DF signature books, but yes to DF and other published alternate covers/premiums.
The same for all other known signed books, sub cat them just because we can and there plenty of us who love the info and are happy to provide scans where we have them to back it up.

As for the Newstand editions, im not sure on those :hm:

It would certainly be a good move to put them in a sub cat at the bottom of each DU.
Lets face it we know most people dont care, but a few of us do and it would make these lists the most awesome probably anywhere online if we did add barcode/newsstand editons too.
I love to know what was comic store only and what made the cut to put out to the unsuspecting general public. :D

Incorporating them into the main list maybe isnt needed unless as you say they have price differences.

If the only difference is a bar code, then I say keep a separate list, well away from the master list.

But the Strangers 5 Prelate posted should be on the master list (rat farts, another one to find!) since there is a different blurb on the cover.

I was gonna point that out but depluto beat me to it. :thumb:

And I agree about the bar code thing. If thats the only difference then no inclusion on the master list.

What are you guys thoughts on newsstand editions that have the CCA emblem that none of the direct market editions have?
