Carbo Big Apple Con - March 11-12, 2017

Post by mrwoogieman »

This will be the next comic con I attend. A two-day throwback con right across the street from Penn Station. I've been going to these since the 90s!

Not sure what presence if any Valiant will have at this show; it's in their backyard so to speak, but it's not the kind of con that has a lot of trade booths.

How is this show if you are looking to fill in runs for $1-$5 books?

It has always had guys like Katz's Comics who seems to sell only those kinds of books. Mike Carbo will also have his neatstuff collectibles guys there (I think he's part owner) who will put out lots of cheap books as well - my guess is since they essentially are the promoter they don't have to worry about covering table fees like the other dealers would.

CKB used to set up at this show once upon a time, maybe he can shed some more light.

It's his show so he's not banned from it! Just don't set anything down that you'd like back. facepalm

It wasn't Carbo that got arrested it was Frankie P. wasn't it? At least according to that article as I understood it...

The items were being taken back to Carbo's booth, and the wording indicates that Carbo will be one of the individuals banned from the Javitz center.
So, he won't be banned from his own convention at Penn Station, he's banned from conventions at Javitz... that was where the confusion was for me.

Someone on the CGC boards put up a pic of Oliver Twist showing his loot to Fagin! Seemed apropos.

It seams they went for the biggest name in the industry, and failed to have regular current artist.

Blocks away from valiant headquarters, yet no valiant creators....

Any word on a Miller or Stan panel? There isn't anything on the site.

There's a panel with them? I just assumed it would be signing sessions or meet and greet rather than a full blown panel...

I don't see a panel with the big guys on the website, just signing and photo opp times.

Comic lovers of all budgets would have no problem with this show. It's a small show that's heavy on back issues and features a lot of the big time east coast dealers as well as a bunch of smaller local dealers. Just tons and tons of back issues at this show.

Jim Steranko was well worth the half hour line to see him. A legend!
