Re: Long Beach Comic Con 2014 - 9/27 & 9/28
I was able to get a press pass and will be attending LBCC this year. I'll be there to take photos of cosplayers and panels mostly. I'll be there for the Valiant panel on Sat.
I see that CGC will be there. Has anyone slabbed their comic(s) through CGC at a convention? Is it recommended and is the process better/cheaper?
I'm thinking of slabbing just a few comics for personal collection-- no plans to resell them.

Damnit.. I was wondering if CGC would be there.. That's bad news for me.. and what little funds I have..spong107 wrote:I was able to get a press pass and will be attending LBCC this year. I'll be there to take photos of cosplayers and panels mostly. I'll be there for the Valiant panel on Sat.

ah don't worry about it. i'm a tad shy and usually keep to myself. BTE actually saw me grabbing valiant books out of the $ box and introduced himself.Bone-A-Fach-ee wrote:Hey man, never got a chance to meet you!?!? Sorry about that! Some of the best times I had at the 2006 NYCC was dollar-book diving with BTE, and later on, with dellamorte.

Re: Long Beach Comic Con 2014 - 9/27 & 9/28
I really enjoyed this show overall. Spent most of Saturday getting signatures and a few sketches, and spent most of Sunday looking at the booths and getting sketches. I think I only ended up buying one thing - picked up a Surrogates trade for only $5. Good to see a few of the WCVC there, too. I ended up skipping the Valiant panel but it sounds like I missed a few more of the WCVC by doing so! Bummer.
I expected Mike Mignola's booth to be packed all weekend but he was a really easy signature to get. He had some Hellboy pencil sketches he'd done in advance, and I was very tempted but that would have blown most of my budget in one shot. James O'Barr had a pretty good crowd at times, but Mike & Laura Allred's booth and also Jimmy Palmiotti/Amanda Conner's booth were packed every single time I walked by. Wow! Got my first Hellboy signed by Mignola, my Crow books signed by O'Barr and my FF/Silver Surfer signed by the Allreds.
Got some great sketches in my Marvel themed sketchbook and I'm tempted to start another sketchbook so I can have two books going at the same time. I picked up one of Jace's tips, and would leave my sketchbook with one artist, and ask what time to come back and get it. Most of them said one hour, so I knew that would free me up to go get some signatures. I just set a timer on my iPhone to remind myself to go back. They usually ended up needing a little more time, so I started setting a one hour, 15 minute timer, but it seemed to work out nicely. Rather than standing there and waiting for a sketch, I could leave my book and go do other stuff. Probably my favorite sketch of the weekend was a Thor sketch from Andrew Robinson. He did the new female Thor and I really love his work anyway! Finally managed to get on Todd Nauck's sketch list since he usually fills up very quickly. He did a Kitty Pryde for me. Great show overall.
