I dunno about "common" practice, per se, but it's something I've used in every WTS thread I've ever had, where appropriate. And I don't mean on just these boards, either.

I've noticed some other boardies that've sold items that started doing it, too. Not saying they did it "just" because they saw me do it, but I definitely don't recall seeing it before then, so...
