Well I thought that this was going to be a good deal....it was @ 5.00 bucks right until the end..then this person out bids me....fair is fair. I put in my max bid and he beat it....but it looks like I got beat by someone who wanted the lot for the Lady Death book and not the Dr. Mirage Gold or the XO .5 wouldve been great to snag those 2 for $5...but oh well...

Huge deal on Valiants

Post by Brother J »

This has to be my biggest Valiant steal ever, it was at a small local comic show yesterday. Last time I was there, I asked a dealer about Valiants. He said he thought he had quite a few of them, so he gave me his card and said he would try to bring them to the next show. I e-mailed him last week to remind him and he sent me an e-mail back saying he had 4 1/2 long boxes worth of Valiants which he would bring for me to look through. When I arrived, he had the books in his van and sent out his helper to go out with me to the van to look through the books and get what I wanted. I was cautiously hoping for a good deal, but have been disappointed before by dealers who claimed to have Valiants, yet they only have the common books. Here's what I landed:

Bloodshot #6 VVSS (in the original Valiant mylar, so it's authentic)
Deathmate Pink Preview (3 copies)
Deathmate Prologue Gold (3 copies)
Deathmate Blue Gold
Deathmate Yellow Gold
H.A.R.D. Corps #1 Gold
Harbinger #0 Pink (3 COPIES!!!!!)
Harbinger #1, 2 (no coupons :( ), 6 (with coupon)
Harbinger Bluebird TPB
Magnus #1 (3 copies), 2-4, 5 (2 copies), 8 ALL WITH COUPONS!
Magnus #25 VVSS (4 COPIES!!!)
Magnus/Nexus Preview (2 copies)
Psi Lords #1 Gold
Rai #1, 2 (2 copies), 3 (2 copies, 1 centered), 4
Rai #9 Gold (2 copies)
Rai #9 VVSS (4 COPIES!!!!)
Solar #1 (3 copies), 2 (2 copies)
Vintage Magnus #1, 2
X-O Manowar #1-6, 15 (Pink)

Needless to say, I was very happy to find these books, but I was worried about the price, since several of them had 1993 price tags on them! He counted the books and asked if $30 was fair. I didn't feel the need to do any haggling from that figure!

My question is, how many beers did you buy him before he gave you the price. I know I always hit up my Dad for money when he was drunk. he would think he was giving me a 10. But it was really a 100.

maybe he ment to say 300.00. You should go back and offer him a fair amount. This way you can sleep well at night.

Heys, guys. Can you tell me if this is a good deal? This is my first VVSS, so I've never seen one before. I bid low and didn't expect to win it. Not many people looked at this book, probably because the seller didn't include "Valiant" in the item description.

Anyway, I was surprised to win it. The total with shipping is 9.01 US dollars. I know $9 is good for a VVSS, I'm just not sure if this is the real deal.

That looks to be a real nice deal to me. I'm sure it's probably authentic because it comes with a COA, even though some of the certificates were just photocopies since it appears there wasn't a COA produced for every book. Also, the signatures seem to vary on these even though they are all supposed to be from Cliff Van Meter.

I saw that book and thought that was a real nice price, but I already have some copies (including one for sale on eBay right now) plus I figured shipping from England would be a bit pricey plus take a while. Good job!

Brother J that is simply scandalous! You should make an unanimous phone call to the comic dealer and give the URL to this site and the price guide!

I assume that was with a BIN price? I guess a lot of those are just being in the right place at the right time - happenings to do a search when something comes up...

JPB,

Thanx (everyone else too) for the pat on the back for the great deal. I have been hitting the the 10 cent to 50 cent bins hard lately at comic shops in central Michigan. I am working my way East.

My deals have netted this past week

Shadowman #6 (v3) (2 copies) $5.83
Unity #1 gold .11 cents
Harbinger 0 (pink) $6.00
X-0 5,6 $1.00 each
Solar #2 1.00
Solar #4 .33 cents
Magnus 4,8 (coupon) .33 cents each
Shadowman #1 (V1) .33 cents
Rai 9 VVSS $5.00 (traded 2 vhs)
Samuree #1,2 (acclaim) 15 cents each
(Hard to find)

X0 42,49, 64,65,66,67 .33 cents each
Eternal Warriors Retailer rev.(2) $1.00 each

Magnus, Trinity, Shadowman 1,5
Ninjak, x-o, Turok, solar, Trouble
makers, bloodshot (retail reviews)$1.00 each

Non Valiant What if #114
Hard to find Secret Wars Issue
($18-$20 comic on Ebay) $1

Turok (Dell) 9 (gd), 15,16,19,20,21(x2)
26 most FN $2.30 each

Can't beat deals like this. Nothing compares to the great deal the guy from Canada got. As Happosai from Ranma 1/2 would say "what a haul, what a haul."

This wasnt too bad. I got a lot of acclaims for cheap. $0.45 per issue. That isnt that cheap, but to get near complete runs and stuff I dont have... It definately helps me with the acclaim stuff as I think I only have the 1st couple issues of magnus and ninjak. After hearing soem of the other board members talk I decided to give it a try.

bloodshot vh2 1-4,6-16, 1 painted cover
doctor tomorrow 1-12
eternal warriors 1-6
magnus vh2 2-6,7-17
ninjak vh2 2-12, 1 painted cover, 1 retailer review,
shadowman vh2 reatiler review 1
shadowman vol 3 3,4
solar hell on earth 1-4
troublemakers 1-19, 1 painted varieant
turok child of blood, empty souls painted variant, redpath
turok/timewalker 1,2
unity 2000 1,2
xo vh2 1-21, 1 painted cover
harbinger :acts of god

Rai trade blue $3
dr mirage 18 (last issue)

Just got my best Valiant deal of the past year:

Harbinger 1 (w/ coupon)
Armorines 0 (Fall Fling)
Unity 0 (Red)
Archer & Armstrong 0 (gold)
Unity 2000 preview
Unity 2000 2 (sealed)
Unity 2000 3

$50 total. Store owner knew what they were worth & even worked for Valiant back in the day. Plus, picked up 3 Eternal Warrior # 4s & a set of "The Visitor" from the quarter bins. Yea!
