Here's what I'm showing: (NOT RANKED IN ANY ORDER!)

1. X-0 MANOWAR #1
2. HARBINGER #1
3. ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #1
4. BLOODSHOT #1
5. VALIANT 2012 SUMMER PREVIEW (1st VEI Published Comic; 1st appearance of VEI X-0 MANOWAR & HARBINGER)
6. HARBINGER #5 (Birth of the Renegades)
7. X-O MANOWAR #5 (1st VEI Ninjak)

Anything to take away and/or add to this list? I intend to write an article on this and want to get the TOP 10 (or TOP 15 :? ) issues "right."

Here's what I have as the top post at the moment. I used dirtbagsailor's last post in this thread as a template. I denoted that X-O Manowar #1 is the first VEI issue in continuity. I also denoted that Harbinger #1 is the first appearance of Bleeding Monk. Any suggestions for changes or additions? Thanks.

Is Archer 1 the first 1% appearance? Might be worth noting.

Also, there was a VEI issue of Archer & Armstrong that was being compare to the original Rai 0 on the board. Does anyone know what issue that was? Does it belong on the list as a VEI key?

Issue #12 is the A&A issue that had all the revelations

So yeah I would include that one .. also Shadowman #5

Archer & Armstrong #12 (Faraway Origin/Ivar Future Revelations)
Shadowman #5 (1st appearance of Shan Fong as Dr. Mirage)

In regards to A&A #0 - I think its significance is that its the first appearance of The Faraway.

I started making up a list a few months ago, my slack *SQUEE* never finished it, but here is what I had so far. If work slows down, I might get it done soon.

I am pretty sure this is accurate.

Archer and Armstrong

1
First Mary maria, Boon, Sect, Dominion, 1%,
First VEI Archer and Armstrong, Ivar

2 First Sisters of Perpetual Darkness, Green Dragon Llamas
First VEI Geomancer

6 First Kay, new Geomancer, Null, Zorn industries,

8 First last enemy
10 First General Redacted , Faraway
12 Future Reveals (rai 0 comparison): archer + faith, bloodshot, 4th harbinger war, sentient cities, etc.

Harbinger

1
First VEI Pete, Kris, Harada, First Joe, Bleeding Monk, Tull, PRS (not named)

2
First Darpan the mirror, PRS (named), Rachel (recruiter) and a more

3
First Hidden Moon, Ingrid, Ion, many others
First VEI Livewire, Faith (cameo since shes only in last page?) :P

4
First activated without technology, Faith is activated by Peter
First VEI Stronghold

7
First VEI Flamingo

8
First Torquehalla, Kardashian Mermaids
First VEI Torque

Harbinger Wars 1
Cronos, Telic, Traveler, Hive, bunch more of gen Zero kids.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?

Figured I'd stop by a LCS on the way home and check for some more deals.

VH1
Bloodshot #6 - 10 excellent copies for .99 each.
Bloodshot #7 - 4 excellent copies for .50 each.
A&A/EW #8 - 1 VF+ for .99

VEI
A&A #6 - 1 near-perfect copy for .99
X-O # 1 - 1 near-perfect copy for $1.50

Going to go back tomorrow and see if I can find some more VEI gems. :thumb:

summer preview.

The first new VEI comic.
Mmm, I dunno. As a reader, I think a preview isn't quite in the same league with an actual, full-blown issue. :twocents:

I agree that a preview shouldn't count in the discussions of first appearances, and it wasn't available in stores so it's not part of the normal purchase method for comics... but...

That particular preview book was the first comic with all new Valiant universe content after 16 years (if we end the first Valiant in 1996).

16 years in the making seems to give a little "something special" to the first comic of the current Valiant universe that could be held by Valiant fans who had been waiting. :thumb:

This is a really good discussion, and I agree with a lot of the comments so far...

VEI books have lower print runs than most key Valiant 1990s issues.
VEI has new characters that are already important to the universe.

The difference that I see, for now, is that we've had less than 3 years of Bleeding Monk, Mary Maria, or Boon stories.
So, while they are clearly important... they don't qualify as "classic Valiant" (if that's a thing) for 20+ years since creation.

X-O Manowar has more than 120 comics, and probably close to 200 comic book appearances.
X-O Manowar #1 from 1992 was the start of all that.

The print run is higher for X-O Manowar #1 from 1992... but the age counts, and the "classic" label counts, and the number of comic appearances count... and nostalgia counts.

X-O Manowar #1 from 2012 is already worth more than X-O Manowar #1 from 1992... if we're talking about the QR variant. Should it be?
That's debatable. It definitely has a lower print run, and it definitely is the start of the new Valiant universe... but should it be more expensive than the original?
Should a super-rare copy of a recent Spider-man book be worth more than ANY copy of Amazing Fantasy #15?

It's not the same ballpark... but the concept is similar. Should a super-rare copy of Spider-man from 1982 be worth more than Amazing Fantasy #15 from 1962?

That's a 20 year window... just like 1992 and 2012. It's something to think about.

VEI books will be more collectable as the universe progresses, especially when they are the first appearance of something all new and important...
but 3 years of Darpan aren't yet what 10 or 20 years of Darpan will be.

Unless something drastic happens with Darpan, like a movie or something.

Movie hype is one of the main factors for collectors right now.

So, if a movie is announced and then say 6-9 months down the road an actor is cast to play: Darpan, Shan, Gin-Ger, Cronos, Kay, Livewire..... Or any of the VEI creations then ... Or a storyline is announced for a movie/TV show that includes any VEI creation, then......

Game Changer for VEI back issues.

Right now it will be 1st app. which are all Original Valiant books.
But I'm bettng that will change. And then the smaller print runs could really drive prices up.

Especially on the Variants. (Mark my words on this one).

But will the value increases be temporary or sustained in either VH1 or VEI back issues? I'm guessing we will see spikes and drops but some if not most key issues (as determined by the market) will see overall long-term increases contingent upon the continued high quality of VEI print and media products.

IMO, 2 ways the prices can stay up on "key" movie Valiant books:

1) a Valiant cinematic universe. If they can get a hit (or even a semi-hit) in the 1st two movies, then it will happen. VEI has the $$$$ and the stable of characters. If they can get a hit or semi-hit then I can see 5-7 movies and then sustainable prices on key movie books.

2) The movie hype brings people to the VEI books and the quality draws a large amount of new readers in.

:hm:
IMO:
The Very First Comic (Preview for X-O and Harby)
All 4 of the #1s for the Summer of Valiant 2012. They are (were?) the pillars of the current VEI.
Bleeding Monk #0 (I'm a little bit behind on my reading, but last time I checked he was apparently going to be really BIG in this universe)
Shadowman #6 (? not sure) (Mirage) and #13 (Punk Mambo)
Rai #1, the Plus Edition. Because it's awesome. Plus.
Divinity #1
Harbinger #3 (? Not sure atm too, either way i'm referring to the first "new, improved" Livewire)

If X-O gets the fame it deserves (movie fame), I can see #7 becoming, while not a key, a Hard to Find. Only one cover, low print. And part of Ninjak's first arc. 8-)

I really think that Summer of Valiant TPB will be akin to the Diamond Unity trades. It's very limited and will be very desirable. I really wish I had bought more. They already fetch a pretty penny.
