Saw that. And yes it is, IMO. I expect that to be a $20K+ piece of art. Out of my price range for sure.

I'm the high bidder at $1,300... everyone else... this isn't the art you're looking for... :kidaround:

(Thrill bids are so 1998... but I'm enjoying it!)

I'm gunning for you, Greg. And thrill bids still exist. How many people bid on that Action Comics 1 last year!

I think that Action Comics #1 had a bidder approval process, so it was a little harder to thrill bid. :D

Looks like it's in HD clarity in it's original art form. Colors are brighter and clearer. Even the background Futurama body tubes look better.

With 15 hours - bid is now $30,000.

Who might have this kind of coin for a cover?

Hmmm....
Hey, look! I have a podcast!

In addition, I'm right.

That $30,000 bid doesn't include the premium the buyer will pay. The actual cost is closer to $36,000. :o

The really special items are interesting for investers, along with gold and property, as currencies are losing their interest. I hope it will go to a collector and not an investor.

Like Greg I put in an early thrill bid but now it's way out of my league. I wonder if this affects the value of the cover for issue 2. Might want to have a chat with my insurance company.

I would guess the value of the #2 cover is at least a quarter of whatever the #1 goes for... especially since the #2 cover was used again later in the title.

The #1 has the added benefit of being the first appearance, as well as the first issue. Despite collectors loving #1 issues, it's surprising how few #1 issues are also first appearances.

:hm: Might take a bigger suitcase when I come over to visit.
If you see me running away from the house, after saying I am visiting the bathroom. Its just because, ummm, I felt like a run.
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

My email this morning said $39K with commission. That's a steep price, and much higher than where I thought it would land. If you like Magnus, this is the grail, so this is a special item. I'm not sure it's that special, but it is a grail.

Always hard to say... there are many oil paintings that sell for millions of dollars which have little or no meaning to anyone (they just go from one warehouse to another).
This painting is the "birth" of a 1963 superhero which has millions of copies of more than 100 different comic books in print over 50+ years.

From a pop culture standpoint, it isn't 1963 Marvel or DC, but it also isn't a failed intellectual property. What's something like that worth as a one-of-a-kind? :hm:

THe buyers premium is quite high don't you think?
Just seems excessive,
Don't think they expected tht price. Maybe at that money they use lower premium percentages.

Fell asleep last night, and missed the end of auction. I will have to think of another present to buy MagnusR for his birthday.
