my first post was user name ioema but it doesn't work now so here's part two of my valiant story under reddog, my new user name.....i had so many valiant's that i bought for half cover price from mrs. shooter as they were published that not only did i begin to sell them walking around comic con's but i decided to open a little store....very little...a 10x10 space in a converted warehouse with dozens of other small shops of no significance.....it was called "sons of thunder comics" and we had little wire racks stuck to the walls and one receipt book. i think the rent was $25 a month. we'd open every once in a while and sold maybe five or ten things in the six months we were open. mrs. shooter heard about the opening and one day during my visit with her she said "i'm gona tell jim and i'm sure he'll want to come see." i froze. "nah, its no big deal and i'm sure he's busy", i said but she replied "nonsense, he's coming home in a few weeks and i'll get him there." and she did! a month later, there he was, giagantic jim shooter sitting on a wooden folding funeral home chair in my 10x10 comic shop taking up 75% of the space with his seven foot wingspan. at the height of his valiant powers, shooter sat with me and my son and talked about everything and nothing, a trio of pittsburghers just shootin the crap. he stayed around for 3 or 4 hours, signed some books for us and wished us luck, acting like he was sitting at mile high comics instead of a decrepit old fire trap on lebanon church road. shooter could be a bruiser and frequently was and he was also one of the most misunderstood, maligned and ripped off legends of comic book history. he also at times made points no one cared about. but for those three of four hours shooter had me and my son listening and dreaming amidst his many comic worlds. i better shut up but part three to come. thanks for listening and making valiant your comic book company!

I wish there was some way for Jim Shooter to be involved with the Valiant Universe. I have been amazed by how damn interesting his stories are and how willing he is to share them with anybody. Look at his accomplishments! What a legendary *SQUEE*!

i left out my very first time meeting jim shooter, and its kinda weird. very early nineties and shooter was just getting his ducks in a row to start valiant. pittsburgh city council and pittsburgh police also were starting something but quite different than shooter and with a weird tie-in......a gun buy back...thats right ...and effort to have less shooter running around. and the oddest part of it all is that outside eide's entertainment on an early saturday morning sat jim shooter and franco harris accepting guns with the police in exchange for either 50 bucks or a signed football from harris and a signed comic from shooter. i gave over a 45 bbgun and at first the cop said "wait a minute, thats a bb gun" but harris said "good enough" and i collected my bounty. jim shooter sitting outside eides in the strip collecting shooters with the immaculate reception guy. i swear its the truth.
