Never collected comics until now.

Post by Gafti »

I have this local comic shop that I've been meaning to check out for years, but I have never collected comics in my life, other than reading them occasionally as a kid in the 70's and 80's. Big Spider-Man fan all my life, but I only owned 3 trades that I got as a gift years ago. I am very into Star Wars, and that was about as far as my nerdom went. Not anymore.
Anyway, I finally went to the shop last month..............Mostly to find some X-Men issues with Legion, because I was so enamored by that FX TV show.
So on a whim(I really don't even remember the exact moment) I picked up XO Manowar #1. I think it was because I thought the cover was rad, reminded me of the original Star Wars a new hope poster, and the quality of the paper impressed me. I had never even heard of XO, Valiant, or any of the Valiant characters.

That was about 30 days ago, and since then I have been friggin devouring trades. I am officially obsessed.
I guess being a Valiant fan is my new hobby. Its weird. Never thought I would be a comic book guy. On top of that, I am seriously considering going to my first ever Con in Baltimore, (but only if there are Valiant panels). WTF?!
I got a fever, and the only prescription is more Valiant.

Welcome to the board. As you already know, there's lots of good stuff to read. My personal favorites are the Dysart Harbinger/Imperium, Van Lente's Archer & Armstrong/Timewalker and Kindt's Ninjak.

Welcome! :high-five:

I wondered how someone who has only been a fan of X-O 2017 could choose "Gafti" as their username, but your devouring the trades answers that question. :lol:

Thanks guys.
I'm a total neophyte. haha.

Harbinger is ridiculously good. Probably my favorite right now along with Divinity. My local shop has a 50% off sale on FCBD, and I plan to load up again on trades.
Still have a ton to read. It really is crazy to me that the average person out there has no clue about the Valiant characters. It's the world's best kept secret.

These stories will never get old. I always enjoy seeing somebody discover how great Valiant is. Welcome to a second family.

Wow that's amazingly generous. Thank you, big time. Unfortunately, I already have those trades. Thank you so much for the offer though, man. Another example of how cool Valiant fans are.

I'm like embarrassed to say it. I've bought 28 trades over the past couple months. Haha. (Caveat: 80% were purchased at 2 different 50% off sales at my local store. And 4 are 90's Valiant trades I found in the $5 bin yesterday.)
Screw it though . It's only money, and I'm enjoying the hell out of myself. These are dollars well-spent.

A proper welcome extended to you, man!

I'm with you on Harbinger (as well as Imperium), it's been the very best of VEI to date in my mind. But so much good storytelling all throughout the current 5 years of new books.

Cool to hear you liked that Legion show, I thought it was really excellent as it progressed. I've been tempted to dig through my New Mutants run to see if I actually have his first appearance there or not - I've never really read many comics about him that I can readily recall.
I like to draw stuff... http://grendeljd.deviantart.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My wife likes to draw stuff too, and she is better than me! [I'm very proud of her]... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sara-Dec ... ref=stream" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Reading your story, I too was never the comic book type, until I read Valiant. Think it's a must that you go to Baltimore Con, especially if Valiant will be there. I would assume they will be, as it's a pretty big East Coast Con. Meeting Dinesh and the rest of the crew for the first time is always real special, but it's meeting the other fans of Valiant I've had the fondest memories. Met some serious fans, some not so serious, each one very kick arse! Getting together for beers after the Con is always a great time too, so be on the lookout for that!
