I kinda jumped in..
I'm new to the board, & Ive been reading Valiant since The Valiant release. However, I'm new to comics im general even though Im 33. Im an Iraq vet.. & I was struggling with some anxiety issues & my VA doc recommended art as a healthly managing tool. Ive always loved to read & I needed a new hobby so comics were a natural fit. Where to start? LoL I live in Mississippi w zero people that I know interested in comics & no LCS. I began with pilfering the local goodwill book store & ignorantly found some gems. After reading a few series that I could round up, I discovered that I enjoyed comics. I started an online subscription pull list through Atomic Empire a LCS in the Raleigh Durham area. This was in the winter of 2014 & I wouldnt change shops for the world. Theyre awesome. I waided through the New 52 & Marvel & anything that seemed to interest me. I randomly subscribed to anything that caught my attention like Image's Descender which I still love. I began reading Valiant through the releases of the Valiant, Ninjak, & Bloodshot Reborn in which I was interested in. I was hooked & I have since read or own almost everything they've put out since the relaunch in 2012. I am currently collecting all the key first appearances. I was drawn to Valiant bc they were a publisher & universe I could call my own. I may never be able to hold a pre-post crisis conversation w anyone, but I can discuss the Valiant Universe. I think VEI should hold the course & theyll succeed. Marvel lost me because of politics.. If Valiant maintains the course of escapism.. Theyll win. Theyre the best publisher bar none.

Re: I kinda jumped in..
Welcome!
My team was tasked with protecting an oil platform and training the Iraqis to take over the mission once we eventually pulled out. Was there in '07 to '08, and when we actually had moments of downtime, when I was fortunate enough to have had a hard drive with every issue of G.I. Joe ever published (up to that point) and read the entire history start to finish. Helped clear my mind a bit, and it wasn't like I had anywhere else to go. It was a rough time to be sure, as I had just lost my father two weeks prior to deploying and was mostly checked-out emotionally. As you know, the desert is not exactly the best place to deal with such things, but sometimes that's what we just seem to get. At least we had a lot of Rip It to keep hydrated.
When Valiant re-launched in 2012, things were a bit calmer and due to several advancements, the job was a bit more stable which allowed more time for hobbies and interests. So I read, collect, and write articles about Valiant on the weekends (whenever I'm not getting called to the TOC for some disaster...).
There are a few folks here with past military service. You are in welcome company.

Re: I kinda jumped in..
Thank you all for the warm welcome! Also, thank your to my fellow brothers in arms. If I had my guess, there is large number of vets reading books. I had to leave Marvel bc I felt totally out of place. Regardless of polictics, beliefs, etc.. Everyone should feel welcome, & I didn't. I feel that Valiant, DC, & a few others for the most part get it. Comics are like movies or jogging.. Its escapism.. I dont want politics & strife in the books that I read. I want XO & Ninjak killing alien terrorists. LoL Now if someone would be so kind, id like a Harby #1 w a coupon & Solar 10 1st print & ill be set Thanks again for the hospitality!
