I discovered Valiant in the early 1990s

Post by VooDawgChile »

I grew up reading every comic book I could get my hands on. This was during the seventies and early eighties. My favorites were marvels. Faded away from comics during high school and college due to girls and sports. Graduated from college December 1990 and started working an hour away from my girlfriend who eventually became my wife ( and still is ). I walked into a comic book store during the death of superman hoopla and discovered Valiant and Image just as they were starting to get traction. The guy in the store basically differentiated the two by saying one was about the art and the other about the story. I got wrapped up in both and bought both heavily. I liked the image books but loved the Valiants. I collected everything they put out and loved them.

I was married in 1994 and the whole acclaim thing happened, I drifted away again as wife and 3 kids took precedence. My son and I have been watching The Walking Dead and really enjoy it. I recently was able to check out the tpb's and read the entire series online through my library. When I finished, I was hungry for more. I started looking for what else was available and I found X-O. That was my favorite title in the 90s so I have read the first five tpb's and enjoyed them (I can't check any more out until next month). I've gone back into a comic book store for the first time in twenty years and discovered how much I've missed. I want to get everything Valiant. I will go with the trade paperbacks just to get there faster. Once I've caught up with the stories I will get every individual comic from there on. I am not worried about collectibility as I won't sell them. I still have all my comics from the 90's and some of the books I had from the 70's and 80's (mom's really were hell on comic collections back then).

I won't buy everything at once but will get a few tpb's a week until completed. I would appreciate any advice on what titles to by first in order to appreciate the continuity the most.

Thanks for having such a nice sight and look forward to having more conversations.

Welcome to the board! :thumb:

You're going to love getting so many Valiant stories in a row without having to wait the months between issues.
Then, when you're caught up, you're going to hate have to wait the months between issues. :D

Here is the release order of the Valiant trade paperbacks (2012-present):

Welcome. Nice to hear someone discovering Valiant again. If you check the Buy/Sell section every so often, you might see some deals on various runs or TPB's.
