My Valiant Story...since 1992

Post by LCS_Alumni »

:breakingnews: I was reading Valiant before it was cool....MAN! :D

That aside I did get the great opportunity to be introduced to Valiant only a month or so after the publishing of Harbinger #1 while working for the largest comic book store in Morgantown, WV in 1992 while going to the university.

It was everything Image at the time was not (quality writing over empty and overwrought visual style) and everything DC/Marvel no longer had the guts to be if they ever did (a universe where story mattered, made narrative sense and where actions had consequence).

When I began grad school, I stopped buying comics for the most part for about 17 years. The return of Valiant pulled me back in, first for the nostalgia and then for the quality, which if anything has increased.

My original favorite was Harbinger, and I enjoyed the initial 25 issue run of the 2012 version, but Imperium is fantastic and makes it clear that Harada is the most compelling character from the Harbinger books, with Faith being a respectable second for me.

Welcome!

Thanks for your story... I don't know whether to be worried or impressed that you were in grad school for 17 years. :hm:

Welcome to the boards. It's fun here as long as you steer clear of the Canadians like MarkRoseHFX and grendeljd.

I own this one fellas. West Virginians are automatically mine. (Just don't let him/her know I went Marshall).

Welcome to the boards, and back to Valiant!! Imperium is a supremely good book, as was the Harbinger run before it. Josh Dysart is my favourite writer in comics right now. :thumb:

Distance yourself from this one, sir! He thinks all Canadians are evil, but honestly - we're the nicest, most apologetic folks around! :screwy:
