Backstory without heavy monologue
Hey everyone,
Little more about how I got hooked on valiant. What can I say, it was the early 90s and grunge was quickly replacing hair mettle and spandex. The comic scene was exploding from a 3rd robin in batman, Xmen starting with variant 1s, and a million and one new titles from image.
I was excited to see comics through adolescent eyes and wanted to follow comics that did not come with more dogma than the Catholic Church. Valiant was another company with a small number of titles and rich character-based story archs. Rai was first introduced on the backside of Magnus robot fighter. While Magnus was not my dish, rai was bold and very different. As the series continued, the main character may have died several times, the essence of the rai was reborn.
Taking the best of the old and infusing it with new ideas: kinda like a Phoenix, valiant is never content to lie in ashes.
