Valiant and Me
Hi guys. Ive been creeping the boards for a little while, and I listen to OnlyTheValiant, so I thought I would finally make an account to share some of my finds and maybe throw in my two-cents every now and then with other Valiant fans.
You can call me Scarabus. I am a 26 year old video editor and music producer from New York. I was about 5 years old when Valiant was big in the 90's. I was given my grandfathers and fathers combined comic collection as a kid, and even then I knew there was something special about the Valiant books. When I was able to draw, some of my first scribblings were that of X-O Manowar and Solar. I played Turok religiously on Nintendo 64 growing up, so in some way shape or form, Valiant was in my childhood.
I loved super heroes as a kid but like most people, I eventually found females and different kinds of teenage mischief more interesting for me then comic books and I kind of lost touch. When I realized girls are crazy, and I started making some money, I was then able to pursue my true interests.
I found work in film production and post production as well as jobs in audio recording. Basically telling an engaging story visually and musically interests me and I appreciate it in any medium. Around December 2011 I was developing a treatment for a science fiction short film. I needed reference material for the artist to story board out scenes correctly, and I also needed a little inspiration for the script. One day at a thrift store, I came across some early Rai. As I flipped through, I realized that the early Valiant material really does still hold up unbelievably well today. I was hooked, again. I started to rebuild my collection from that point on and ironically, news of the new Valiant had surfaced. What a great time to be Valiant fan.
The new Valiant has been nothing short of spectacular. The titles stay true to the originals yet have a modern twist to engage the readers of today . In my opinion, the titles have proved to be better than the originals. The character development in Harbinger is almost real, the scale of X-O Manowar is enormous, and the potential of Shadowman is clearly apparent, just to name a few. Every book has a different feel yet is part of the same universe. I dont need to read anything else. Valiant has it covered.
That is my little intro. I hope to communicate with some of you guys in the future. Peace.

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys, and thanks Chiclo. I look forward to hearing OTV's opinions on the latest Valiant books, especially Shadowman 10 and Harbinger 15. Cheers.
