My first post, my first thread, my first everything

Post by Talisman »

I have been reading comics religiously since 1991 and the debut of the X-Men animated series. Up until this point, the majority of said books have all been Marvel/DC related with a sprinkling of Image books read in the span of those 22 years of comics reading and I have never until this year even been remotely interested in a Valiant series...until a couple weeks ago when I ventured across a copy of Robert Venditti's X-O Manowar. I have been reading his Green Lantern/GLC since the creative team had taken over, but I kept hearing great things about his Valiant stuff (and heard just general great things about the Valiant line, period.) so I picked up a copy of it in my LCS and read it...and LOVED IT. I've since gathered everything I can get my sticky little fingers on, and love that Peter Stanchek is from Pittsburgh. Is this a nod to Jim Shooter's home town, or is it just a coincidence. I am hoping to see Valiant pick up the Solar license and see what this new, talented group of creators could do with him, as he's become my favorite from the original universe.

Anyway, I'm kinda kicking myself for not picking these books when they first came out, because I would have saved myself a world of a headache having to track down all of these issues, but I'm here for the long run.

Welcome. Like that you're from Detroit and mention Pete's Pittsburgh connection.

I lived in Detroit - well YEARS ago - and live in Pittsburgh now.

Luck with picking up the stuff. When you have difficulty, make a list. People around here are AMAZINGLY helpful.

The original Harbinger was based in Pittsburgh - more of an homage to that.

That is the right question.

I like this one. Seems like a keeper.

Final test: Canadians - love or loathe entirely, perhaps to the point of genocide?

Oh, and welcome to the board. It's fun here.

Ummm...my grandfather is Quebecois...so love them?

And thank you everyone for the warm response! I'm not quite comfortable to take my shoes off yet, but I feel I will get there ;)

Thank you for the responses to my questions. I had no idea the original Harbinger was based out of Pittsburgh, it's good to know, though. I loved how Shooter liked to use his hometown in a lot of his work, and he's still one of my favorite old school creators (esp. from his tenure as Marvel's E-i-C)

Hmmm...

That's French-Canadian, so worse than the regular kind. But French-Canadians hate the other Canadians and vice-versa. I'll have to do some thinking on this.

I think I'll give you a pass. It'll be a provisional approval. I see you getting all friendly with grendeljd, hawkeyeps, MarkRoseHFX, nscc, et. al (boy, there are too many Canadians on here!), then you go on the crap list. Watch yourself!

Glad to hear you are enjoying the new Valiant. I think it would be cool to see them acquire Solar (and Magnus) at some point as well.
