My Valiant Story
Hello to one and all!
Strangely enough, my Valiant story has yet to truly begin.....and here's why.
Recently, I came across the solicits for the upcoming Eternal Warrior title. I was intrigued by the description of Gilad and so sought out other information on other Valiant titles and soon realized that this company may offer what I've been missing lately from reading comics.
I've been reading comics since the late '70s/early '80s. As EIC of Marvel, Shooter helped usher in a new age of stories at Marvel, a time and a period I still hold in high regard to this day. While a Marvel fan at heart, I also read DC as well as sampling the burgeoning independent publishers such as First and Eclipse, with Comico being my all-time favorite.
During the '90s though, I fell out of comics as Real Life intruded with moving, job situations, family issues, and other personal problems. As such, I completely missed out on Shooter's original Valiant offerings.
Things settled down more at the beginning of the new millennium and I jumped back into the Big Two. When the new Valiant line was announced later, I was encouraged that another new publisher was available but having never read any of the original books, I was hesitant to try the new books.
In recent years though, I've grown bored with the Big Two. I wasn't enjoying the New 52 all that much and while Marvel NOW! has been better, the company's focus on ever-increasing yearly events has made me weary of them.
But the more I read of Valiant, the more it seems they offer the tight continuity, focused story-telling, deep characterization, and great art that I've found lacking in the mainstream. So while I play catch-up on the various titles, I hope you will indulge the questions and comments of a complete noob.
And by the by, I came across this wonderful site via the CBR forums. Also, I have no issues with Canada nor with her citizens (I love Alpha Flight!)
So glad to be here!

Really like your choice of avatar, friend.
Welcome aboard - very cool to hear of a long time comic-reading veteran newly checking out Valiant. While I've been a Valiant fan since virtually day one, I am also a fellow Marvel fan at heart. I have recently dropped everything Marvel with the Now! shake-up. I've had enough. It rips me up to not follow their books, but the entire line of Valiant does everything great that Marvel once did, and I'm really glad they're around to fill that void.

Welcome. Great to have a long-time comic book fan like yourself on board.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.
