How Valiant brought me to comics.

Post by Thunderer76 »

Hello, my name's Matt and comic books were a sometime fringe thing in the eighties when I was a kid. My mom would buy me an X-Men comic when I got sick, my dad bought some Daredevil's for me on Christmas but that was about it. Then there was the boom of the nineties and one friend of mine was a big comic collector and told me about Image and all that, so I went to a store with him and got some Spawn and Youngblood, Cyberforce, Savage Dragon and an X-Men and Daredevil. None of them really did anything for me. Yeah the art was good but I didn't care about the story or characters. I went one more time and saw Shadowman #8. Right away the cover intrigued me, Shadowman facing off against a group of thugs with a shadowy figure lurking in the background. I was sold. The story however put the hooks in me with the blood runners and Master Darque and my favorite part being Jack Boniface fighting for his life and drawing strength from a song he loved so he could keep on fighting. From there I read Shadowman, Magnus Robot Fighter, H.A.R.D. Corps, Eternal Warrior, Ninjak and Bloodshot.
Of course I went to college, stopped reading and the majority of my collection were either sold off or lost in moves, I only have a few Bloodshot's left with some Deathblow's (hey, I loved the art) and I follow Alex Ross, so, I have all of his stuff. Now I have every Valiant from the relaunch except the Shadowman's, which I'm going to correct soon, and I hope they come out with a H.A.R.D. Corps comic after the Harbinger Wars.
Thanks for reading and taking a trip down memory lane with me. Talk to you later.

Matt.

If I win an argument, it doesn't mean I'm right. It means I'm a better arguer.

In addition, I'm right.

Welcome. I warn you: Prolonged exposure to this board is both harmful to your wallet and will cause you to collect more comics than you intended.

Thank you for the kind replies. lorddunlow, don't worry I'm only going to stick with Valiant and get about five or six titles so I won't be going broke. I mean I'm married with five kids so I'm pretty much broke already.
