Discovered the Valiant Heroes this year

Post by tetrisdork »

My first post, so here it goes...

The only time I have owned a Valiant book was when they were releasing licensed Nintendo comics. I believe I had an issue or two of the Game Boy series. However, I have avoided the Valiant Heroes for a long time. I knew about them through video game magazine coverage (like when Iron Man/X-O Manowar came out) and the occasional Quantum & Woody blurb through Wizard, but never pursued them.

I recently got back into comics via the New 52 and Comixology on my iPod. And, I got deeper into comic book news, so I have heard about Valiant relaunching and the buzz surrounding it. At FCBD, I picked up the Valiant 2012 preview and was impressed. After a few good reviews, I picked up X-O #1 and enjoyed it very much, putting it in my pull list. And I thought that would be it. Until the Comixology Valiant 99-cent sale on Labor Day. Picked up the other 3 and was floored by them. So much so that I picked up the print versions soon thereafter in a game of catch-up.

Today, I have X-O and Harbinger on my pull list. I am tempted to continue getting Bloodshot, but Archer & Armstrong is going into trade-wait mode due to a limited budget. I was also impressed with Shadowman from what I've read on Comixology and will trade-wait that for a bit. I've also gone into the old-school catalog via Comixology, having picked up the 1st 8 issues of Quantum & Woody plus the 1st issues of Ninjak, Bloodshot, and X-O. And even with the digital stuff and monthly purchases, I still bought the first X-O trade at my LCBS and I might go drop some cash on those Valiant Masters trades.

Welcome! I hope they run another 99 cent sale again. I have at least one print copy of all of the new books, but I'd like more digital. It's a different reading experience, but I like it. It's also an easy way to get those original Valiant universe runs.

Welcome aboard. I recently joined this forum and the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Not sure what's on your pull list but my advice would be to get ruthless, if the Marvel/DC stuff isn't keeping you entertained then drop one and pick up Bloodshot, it's very well written and now would be a great time to jump on!

Pull list is as follows:
-Green Lantern
-GL: New Guardians
-Superboy (for H'El on Earth crossover only)
-Superman
-Superman Family Adventures
-Supergirl
-Wonder Woman
-Hypernaturals
-X-O Manowar
-Harbinger
-Amazing Spider-Man/Superior Spider-Man
-Uncanny Avengers
-Red She-Hulk
-Fantastic Four
-FF
-Hawkeye
-Gambit
-Wolverine & the X-Men
-Scarlet Spider
-Avenging Spider-Man
-Fearless Defenders

Although w/ today's Harbinger Wars announcement, GL and GLNG are going bye-bye. I like GL and Kyle Rayner, but the current "Rise of the Third Army" event hasn't done anything for me.

I keep adding other books to my list, but strange ones.

Luther Strode, Saga, Before Watchmen, and Punk Rock Jesus. Three of these are limited, too.

Welcome aboard! So good to have new voices on here.

I was up to 20 DC books this time last year, alas I wasn't loving half of em after 6 issues or so, so a lot of those were axed in favor of Valiant.

Bloodshot keeps getting better, so definitely consider picking up another issue! Also, it'll be interesting to see how he loops into Harbinger for the Harbinger Wars.
