HEY ALL!!! like most here ( i assume) I started collecting valiants at XO #1 back in 1992 - i was 12/13 yrs old. me and my brother had just started collecting comics officially. prior to that i only collected the old eastman and laird's teenage mutant ninja turtles first run. also we would buy wizard just as sort of a reading magazine along with our college football magazines heh. well we were in Emerald City comics in St. Pete, FL when we were perusing the NEW RELEASE wall and there was XO #1. so we asked the owner about "Valiant" and he said they were an upstart with some good continuity and story. since IMAGE was starting up at the time he basically outlined it to us as "it's like Image comics except the opposite. Where image had great art and horrible stories and zero continuity, Valiant focused more on reading than flash." this intrigued us since we could basically care less about "superheroes" and wanted a more cerebral and realistic approach to character interactions and storytelling. So there was Harbinger, Rai, Solar already issues into their runs so we decided to pick up XO #1 since it was a first of a series to begin reading. We went home. Read it and forced our mom to immediately go back to the shop and we picked up all the valiant back issues he had and i have been a valiant junkie ever since. it really is as simple as that, not much of a story just INSTANT love the second i opened it.

I must give MASSIVE PROPS to Valiant because my brother or myself wouldnt be where we are today if it wasnt for Valiant literally making our creative juices be birthed. My brother is an english doctoral candidate and a short story fictional writer and i am now a full time professional visual artist (illustration/film/multimedia). because of valiant, our love of storytelling was driven and we found our lifetime niches.

when acclaim killed us i was downhearted as most of you were i would guess, but then came crossgen which held my appetite for good universe continuity and was hooked on that for it's duration. now the grandfather of perfect comic universes has come back and, of course we are all ELATED!

i own (almost all) the books of all the runs (i think i am missing about 7-10 books total for a complete valiant set - except for variants of course... i only have a handful of those), i'll post a list at some point for what i need and hopefully u can help a brotha out

i actually signed up for this message board yearssss ago, but since nothing was happening with V actively back then i stopped visiting (and forgot my old username/pass heh). but i'm back.. and STAYING (esp after interacting with a handful of u silly arses in facebook and doing the recent valiant art competitions).

okie dokie, speaking of art, now a quick question - i scoured the board as much as i could but i didnt see a "fan art" thread (or specific board) anywhere...

all i ran across was actual valiant company art ppl scanned in and posted and talked about

i browsed the VALIANT ART board and some other boards on here and i found nothing? so are we going to have, at some point, a separate place where fans can post their own created valiant artwork? i'm working on a slew of them right now but i dont want to "be that guy" and post stuff out of place on the boards, and would also like to see other ppl's stuff instead of having to miscellaneously search the boards ya know? it would also be a nice place to post the fan art contests valiant has recently done and i assume will continue to do (since all i saw was a misc thread about the recent poster contest for example).

Good point about fan art. Some members have their own threads with their personal and fan art but I think they are scattered across a couple of sections. Maybe you can start a thread in the Valiant Art section and if there's enough interest, it can be stickied.

yeah i suppose i can start a thread "fan art" thread soon, hopefully it gets stickied. would be nice to have an art section instead of a fanart post thread so it dosent just become one long thread and peoples art just gets lost on like "page 23" never to have anyone see their work beyond the day they posted it.

anyway, i must say, i love how active these boards are GJ all!
