Dullsville makes me spend money

It started uh... WAY back with the Marvel mess. I filled in X-Mens that were available, and the local comic shop was selling a pack of Unity - for near cover price - and it was that, or save my money. Picked it up, and was a fan. Bought everything I could find, as soon as possible. I can remember picking up Rai 3 and 4 for cover price in the back issue bin JUST before the price went WAY up. In fact, I filled in almost all of my gaps - except Magnus Robot Fighter. Never wanted to buy it. The art in Unity was crummy, and I didn't end up buying any more Magnus until years later. Somewhere in my college career, I dumped comics in general. Fast forward to ebay - when I grabbed my comics from Mom's house, and filled it in! Three great years of reading - and on the CHEAP! Of course, I got back in just as Acclaim was killing off the Valiant line for the second time. I filled in, finished reading, then happily abandoned, mostly filled in. For whatever reason, I went back into a local shop, and saw - what? Dr. SOLAR? And pulled out the junk again. Now, I'm RE-filling the gaps not important back then. HERE WE GO!

Nice story. Very cool that you got to pick up key issues before the prices jumped.

Welcome to the board! I too dislike the art in the Unity issues of Magnus. If that had been my only exposure to Magnus, I probably wouldn't have wanted to pick up any other issues either. But, as I hope you know by now, the first two story arcs in Magnus are some of the best stories ever published in comics, in my opinion.

Gotta agree with you - but I had no exposure until MUCH later on. I just thought he was a poorly drawn fool... What I'd LEARN YEARS later.

RE-telling the story?

Know I've been quiet lately. Really quiet.

Looking to get back in - but need to catch up on reading, though. Not entirely certain why. Job, life, fun, etc. Disney World obsessions.

It started with Unity 3. The 1:100 sketch variant. Never could find it. So - i gave up. And turned in my completion card.

Then, I just stalled on reading. Everything.

Well, except books.

Now, I am behind. FAR behind. I just don't want to spoil anything. And still look at covers. Somewhere, somehow, I MAY catch up. Eventually.

But don't worry. I am still out there.

Anyone wanna offer me a taco somewhere?

If I win an argument, it doesn't mean I'm right. It means I'm a better arguer.

In addition, I'm right.

Hi, Kevin!

Here's a taco.

Welcome back! I've been less active lately for same reasons - too far behind. I dropped off of reading comics (not just VEI) after Umbral was cancelled.

I know that seems random, but I really loved that book and that has been the ONLY book that I've ever picked up based on ads/solicits only and without input of other comic book types. I even had 3-4 letters published in the letters column. I loved that book and tried to get others reading. I failed, and it took the wind out of my sails. I'm slowly getting back into it, but I'm less fanatical now.

I've only kept up with East of West and Manhattan Projects (mainly because they're so slow at being released). Everything else is months behind.

We're heading to Disney Friday before our cruise on Saturday.
*SQUEE* your science, I have a machine gun.

I also fell off VEI train as well (I think XO 24 was the last VEI book I read). I do have about 5 Image books that I read (TWD, Saga, Lazarus, Birthright, and East of West) but I am overwhelmed by all the stuff that VEI has put out. Thinking about getting caught up on XO and trying out Divinty. I'm still around too though...

I don't know from taco but have a fruit roll-up. I went away for about 2 years and have been slowly (or quickly at times) catching up. I am very thankful for the deluxe HC editions. It has helped that my 12yo son can read most of what I read too now and enjoys it, but not as much as me. Give us a holler now and then!
