My Valiant story by a Dutch reader
Somewhere in the beginning of 2000 I noticed a lot of comics in al small comic book shop in the small country Holland.
We are talking the small city of Kampen, a place renowned for their religious smallmindedness an strangely enough...Art Academy.
The comic books were from a company called Valiant. I did not know them nor the company, thumbed through them and did not feel compelled to dive into a new universe.
Marvel, Dark Horse and in smaller degree DC was enough for me.
I was 21 at the time and was growing tired of comics alltogether...
And suddenly, a few weeks later all the comics, be it TPB's ,Gold logo's and that not were gone! All of it!
In the eastern part of Holland comic book stores are rare, and collectors even rarer, so it came to be that my friend had bought all the comics for a cheap price of perhaps €150,- for the whole lot.
He introduced me into Valiant, decribing it a solid universe, and a crossover as it should be. That of course was Unity.
So I gave it a try, and was drawn in, as the rest of you.
And nowhere were comics of Valiant to be found!
In Amsterdam and Utrecht were some dealers that I knew, but nobody was carrying Valiant anymore. It had perished years ago and back issues were non existent.
Years went by, we gratuated at Illustration and began our own business.
We remained friends though we were each located at the other side of Holland. For Americans perhaps a distance to be laughed at, but for us it seemed far away, a Grand Canion looming between us.
We each got girlfriends and well...girlfriends and comics...
Suddenly my friend was offering his whole Valiant Collection up for sale.
He knew it by heart and was happy to sell it to me.
So there my Valiant collection began. Not complete, mind you, but within months I got my hands on TPB's and whatnot.
Collecting Valiant to a point were I though quality was good enough for my taste.
And now Valiant is my proudest collection. But most because of the storylines, the artwork, the complete package.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Greetings from a dutch fan!
And I hope Valiant Entertainment will start anew with new storylines and with as much heart and labour put into it as before.
Thank you for all your efforts Valiant Entertainment!

The Treaty of Utrecht ended the War of Spanish Succession. I should have remembered that. Duh.
It recognized Phillip of Anjou as the Spanish King and ceded much of Spain's European holdings outside the Iberian peninsula. 1713 - that's where I was getting the 13.
Greetings from one resident of a former Spanish colony to another.
