VA Meeting - My Valiant Story
Hello. My name is Drift and I am a Valiantoholic.
I started collecting comics about 6 years ago when a friend of mine that I worked with came back from his lunch break with a pile of comics he had picked up from the local comic shop, which at the time I didn't even know existed as I was a bit of an anchorite and tended to stay home if I wasn't working or at school. I asked him what he was reading and he showed me, saying, "It is Free Comic Book Day. Why don't you pop down and get some for yourself?"
This confused me a bit. Why would people give away free stuff? Especially as I knew comics were collectable and potentially worth money. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
I went looking for the comic shop and instead found a small, bread bin sized unit in a shopping centre with a strange looking, shaven-headed man (Hi Draco) standing behind the counter. I told him about my friend and asked about the free comics. Half an hour and thirty quid later i left with a load more stuff than I originally wanted and after reading what I had picked up, both free and paid for, I was hooked on comics and started collecting.
Fast forward 5 years and after a series of odd circumstances I am now working for the strange looking, shaven headed man on a market stall in the town centre. I started to help him out at shows in London on the odd Sunday as part of the job and after one of these shows we were discussing our hauls we had picked up for our own collection and Draco said he had picked up a load of stuff to cross off of his Valiant list. Being the inquisitive and still largely comic industry unknowledgable guy I was, I asked, "What is Valiant?" Oh dear.
It is now my sixth year of collecting comics and almost the end of my first working with Draco and while sorting some boxes of stuff on one side of the room I notice Draco pulling out a load of stuff from another load of boxes and putting them into another. When we were done he gave me the box he was putting things in.
"There you go. The start of your education."
The box is full of Valiant books and after reading a few I am hooked.
During my year of working with Draco I have also developed an obsessive tendency toward collecting everything to do with whatever I have picked up. It started with the JLA and has now extended to my Valiants. I want to complete a collection of everything Valiant has ever published.
This is not the end of my story.

Welcome to the board. There are quite a few people around here that can help out with a good portion of that goal.Drift wrote: I want to complete a collection of everything Valiant has ever published.

Just a note to say this guy brightens up my day with his more than wrong twisted sense of humour and shares my beyond normal love for everything comics.
His desire to collect Du's is growing too and its all my fault.

For more of a 'valiant themed' con. i would suggest the con in New York this April. i've heard it should be cool.Draco wrote:Well guys if you like Newky Brown maybe Drift and myself can come over next year and we can share a few. We plan to pop over to a comicon somewhere at some point but havent decided when or where yet. Any suggestion would be cool. cheers
