How I became a valiant collector (reader)
I remember telling my father that I was interested in collecting comics, and he said he used to do that as a kid himself. So we started collecting (mostly hoping to make some money on the collection) this was back in the early 90's just when comics were getting "hot" to collect. Well I was picking up a few different issues in the marvel section looking for something to hook me. I think I found uncanny x-men, and darkhawk to be a few fav's of mine. Well my father was looking for any #1's that he could come across because, those are the ones that are worth money. We both saw Magnus Robot Fighter #1 sitting on the comic stands. I gave it to my dad and said here you go, here's a #1 issue. I didnt' pick it up for myself cause I didnt have alot of money. Well he starting collecting that run, he picked up Harbinger #1 and that run as well. Well fast forward to 10 or 11 issues later (magnus run), he finally tells me that the Valiant comics are really, really, good reads. So I opened up my dad's collection of Magnus Robot Figher looked at the art and go... hmmmmm doesn't look that good, but since you said its good, I'll give it a read. Sat down and read magnus robot fighter #1 - 10... wow it really is good, I remember thinking. I'll have to try Harbinger now. Same result. I loved Harbinger it became one of my fav's. Needeless to say, I started picking up as many valiants that I could find. No matter the title. Then Unity came upon us. Well, I was spending quite a bit more money now. Loved Unity. I ended up getting every single unity book possible. My favorite reads were X-O, Harbinger and the early archer and armstrong.
The past year or 2 I have been in the process of getting every pre-unity issue possible. I am currently only missing 2. My favorite comics out of my whole collection is the early valiants that Jim Shooter worked on. He was the MAN! The company so went downhill after they booted him out. Today, I have no intentions of selling my valiant collection. I accuatly enjoy it. I still do have a few comics I hope to someday make money on. But the valiant collection is different. Anyways, that's my story.
