alright
My VALIANT story goes as follows:
It was a dark and stormy night, and all the little punk *SQUEE* teenagers were sittin in their cozy rooms somewhat safe and sound. Not I. No, me and about 5 of my friends were up in the wee hours of the morning playing dungeons and dragons. My 10th level psionic ranger was just about to the point of total mind-control domination over all the little werebears and sea-sprites when my friend had an epiphany: 'We should start collecting comics you guys - I saw this comic called SOLAR that looked awesome down at C&E (our LCS in Connersville, IN at the time - it is still there somehow), the owner said it was by a company called VALIANT or something like that'. Keep in mind that SOLAR 1 was already out and in a glass case right under the cash register - already at nice little price that all of our friends probably couldn't afford at the time - we spent all our hard-earned cash on D&D handbooks, DM guides, billion sided dice and other tools of the trade.
Now the issue that was out at the time was SOLAR 15 or something so we had to start there. We read it and immediatley got hooked (at least 3 of us were - a couple others decided that women and baseball were more important). So it was on - we had to get that SOLAR #1 and up (not realizing SOLAR #10 was going to cost us a helluva lot more than #1). We sold some D&D books, mowed some grasses, became gigilos and finally raised enough cash to buy our treasure. IT WASN'T THERE! Somebody bought it the day before Ed was telling us. Those b@stards, now what were we to do? Comic convention, that's what. There was one in 2 weeks in Indianapolis Holiday Inn Convention Center - we had to go (although none of us were old enough to drive yet - prob. #1). SO - we convinced my friend's dad to drive us up there and spend the afternoon sifting through boxes and boxes of comics. VALIANT was very popular at this time so we had no problem finding comics to buy - we did have a problem obtaining enough cash to buy all of them - so me and my friend would alternate buying the higher priced comics - SOLAR 1-10 took an entire summer's worth of mowing some yards, MAGNUS took us another year, but we finally had a sizeable collection (which my friend still has - I sold mine to do the next big thing - become a badass drummer and start a band - still play drums and still collect VALIANT)
So that is pretty much my story on how me and another guy became hooked on VALIANT. I still love SOLAR - when I got back into collecting - that is the first series I started buying - found a #1 for $4 and decided it was time...time to start using the internet. That is also how I found this forum (which is the best thing since sliced bread - or whatever that stupid saying is). So feel free to sell/donate SOLAR's - I have about 5 sets of SOLAR 1-10 and still love to read those books.

I am particularly fond of the 3rd set myself - pretty sure the ink has an addictive substance, that through osmosis, somehow makes me pick up those copies only (or maybe they are my reading copies - not sure).greg wrote:Hey, me too! I have been trying to become a gigilo forever. Any tips on starting out in the biz?
Do you need to be a psionic ranger in order to become a gigilo?
Do gigilos and juggalos ever rumble?

Mind moss was a b!tch (and still is, cloggin your inner ear and sh!t - WTF) - but the BSD was lost in action as well; Fire Giant named LavaChomp McBurlyBallz decided they would make a perfect addition to his GOLD version of the game of jacks. Didn't bounce as well as he hoped and turned out it was broken beyond repair.siren3-4 wrote:cjmiller2213 wrote: . . . D&D handbooks, DM guides, billion sided dice and other tools of the trade. . .

Oh the good ole days of D&D - this could be a whole topic in itself so we don't want to have a thread go off topic - that would be horrible.
BTW - if VALIANT char. decided to be included in the D&D universe, do you feel SOLAR would stand a chance against this construct:

I think it would be an unfair fight - SOLAR is just ridiculous

This reminds me of being in a group of people that are talking in a foreign language and feeling completely out of place.cjmiller2213 wrote:Mind moss was a b!tch (and still is, cloggin your inner ear and sh!t - WTF) - but the BSD was lost in action as well; Fire Giant named LavaChomp McBurlyBallz decided they would make a perfect addition to his GOLD version of the game of jacks. ha
We def. had glances thrown our way but we didn't care. Our 'click' consisted of some pretty hardcore people. People didn't f*ck with us for good reasons - I was the person that threw all the parties every weekend at the 'barn' where my band played pretty much every weekend and everybody we liked was invited - prob. around 50-100 people were out at my place every weekend of my junior/senior year. D&D wasn't really played by the rules but it somehow was fun to us and we all had a blast - didn't play it as much as we played music but somehow we got into it and comics.
I am now a software engineer, collect comics, and still watch and read fantasy - and I still get glances thrown my way for one reason or another. Maybe that is the reason my last lady decided to move along
