An unlikely Valiant Fan
Hi, I am Chiclo, I am 25, live in Amarillo, Texas and have only recently become a fan of Valiant comics.
I got into comics when I was 12. My first comic was Uncanny X-Men #310. My second, Secret Defenders #12, featured he who would become my favourite character, Thanos of Titan. For the next 2 years or so, I was obsessed with Marvel comics. I did near the end of that run pick up one DC comic, the Death of Superman. I was peripherally aware of the other comic book companies, but paid most attention out of them to Malibu and Valiant. I had a handful of Valiant comics of my own, a couple of Magnus, a Solar, and a few X-O Man-o-Wars. At the end of those two years, I got out of comic collecting and sold off most of my collection to several of my schoolyard chums mostly for a profit. I kept on to less than a short box of comics, mostly Thanos related, and would occasionally add to that from sporadic trips (one or two a year at most) to the ONE COMIC STORE in town. 180,000 people and we can only keep one store here in town... but anyways, I started getting more interested in comics again about 3 years or so ago. I started diversifying my collection, mostly getting Martian Manhunter, Lobo and Spectre from DC in addition to catching up on 10 lost years of Marvel and replenishing my collection. Last year, I bought 3 long boxes on eBay and when they came in, I began separating the books I was interested in from the books that I was not. I generated a large pile of books that I was not interested in, and every Valiant I got in was in that stack. I kept meaning to trade those books off, but never got around to it.
Then the winds of change began to stir. I work on a small network of fansites for the Cartoon Network late night cartoon block [adult swim]. A few of the people were talking about heading out to Comic Con. I decided that that was something I wanted to be involved in, and by July I was in San Diego, unofficially attached to the Cartoon Network delegation. I spent most of my free time wandering around this place of happiness and wonderment I had managed to work myself into. I had a world of comics at my fingertips that I would not be able to access here in Amarillo at Big Apple Comics. Thursday I became obsessed with AK Comics. Friday it was the Black *SQUEE* and Return of the Super Pimps. I was developing a love for something I had always rejected - comics other than DC and Marvel. Saturday, I was becoming fatigued, but I still wandered around and kept buying all these fascinating things. I picked up - for reasons I will probably never fully understand - three packs of the Valiant Era trading cards. When I got home, I started re-working all those comics that I had been meaning to trade off but never did - back into my collection, but I did not read too many of them. I had all my doubles off to one side, sorted alphabetically. For some odd reason, I picked the one off the top up - and Archer and Armstrong - and started reading it. I started reading the other Valiant doubles I had there and remembered really liking the books but never actually getting around to getting many of them. I read all the Valiants I had. Recently I have started acquiring more, at the flea market, on eBay, and will probably start buying them here.
That post went on longer than I expected. I came into Valiant late, but better late than never, I suppose.

1st - Adult Swim is the cat's pajamas!
Glad you decided to read your Valiants, that's what they are best used for. Which Archer and Armstrong issue did you read? #0-12 is the best story (one heck of a story too!!)
Stick around a while, you're going to be very surprised at how good the Valiant books are (Magnus and Harbinger especially!!!)
