My Valiant Story
Hello Everyone, My Name is Jason. I actually started collecting Valiant Comics many years ago when I use to work with Acclaim Entertainment.
When I graduated college in 1994, I was able to get a job for a marketing and sales firm in Los Angeles that specialized in Video Games. We represented the likes of Sony, Sega, Namco, Take 2, Eidos, THQ, Acclaim and many other Video Game Publishers.
When I first started working with Acclaim I found out that they wanted to get into the comic book business. The owners of the company like everyone else wanted to get in on the comic book craze during the late 1990's. Acclaim also owned LJN which at the time was a pretty cool toy company as well.
As far as comics go, I used to get samples at our office and began reading the stories and really enjoyed the art. How can you say no to the likes of Shooter and Barry-Windsor Smith...
We would go to trade shows and exhibitions and get samples of cool Valiant and Acclaim stuff that nobody else was able to get.
Unfortunately those limited edition comics were sold off by my lovely mother when she was clearing out the garage for a spring cleaning sale. So yes, there were probably many thousands of dollars worth of gold, limited edition and special issues given away for pennies on the dollar about 5 to 8 years back. Lesson learned, never again!!
I started collecting again and recently purchased a inventory from a comic book store in Ventura County. The inventory had quite a bit of Valiant material. Mostly early runs of the major titles such as Magnus, Shadowman, Rai, Eternal Warrior, Armorines, etc.
I started reading some of them again and told my wife, she could not touch my stash!! The only thing she gets upset about is the comics seem to migrate from the garage to other rooms in the house.. I told my wife when she married me she was getting a Big Kid who loves comic books!!
That is my little tale about my Valiant Comic beginnings.
I am so glad to find a site like this and look forward to meeting and speaking with my fellow Valiant comic book collectors!!

Hola Compadre....
Welcome to the site... it's nice to have another So. Cal VALIANT fan!
Sorry about the books, I have a similar garage sale story, execpt I was the culprit
...and it wasn't golds, limited editions and stuff... just doubles of commons I had, but still I wish I had them now.
Anyway, check out some old topics and post often.

Re: My VALIANT Story
Welcome Jason, enjoyed your story.
Now we need to get the brains on this board to solve the problem of spouses not understanding the need for comics boxes to be all around the house (yeah I'm going to have to do some work to get the attci into shape for storage soon...)tonsofvaliants wrote:Hello Everyone, My Name is Jason.

You and me both leon. I politely remind her of the "til death do us part" thingy. Her response: "Your insurance is paid up!":lol:leonmallett wrote:...Now we need to get the brains on this board to solve the problem of spouses not understanding the need for comics boxes to be all around the house (yeah I'm going to have to do some work to get the attci into shape for storage soon...)tonsofvaliants wrote:...I started reading some of them again and told my wife, she could not touch my stash!! Argh....a Valiant fans worst nightmare (besides having Hobo's ex get ahold of your books that is).tonsofvaliants wrote:Unfortunately those limited edition comics were sold off by my lovely mother when she was clearing out the garage for a spring cleaning sale. I like how this board already has "legends" : Whet's pube in Dino's book... ZWH's complete collection purchased from Joe P. ... Hobo's ex peeing on his comics... not to mention anything that has happened when any of us have actually met.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
