I'm 30 now - 15 years ago (or so) a new comic store opened near me called "BIG BOB's" in Jacksonville, FL - it was the first store I could bike to, and was the start of the BIG comic boom. I only knew the big-press big-name-titles ... then I saw Barry Windsor Smith -

That's all it took - it would take me another 10 years to get all the back issues I needed. One day I need to sort them out - but I'd say I have a 85% collection of every Valiant title prior to 2000.

EDIT: oh, PS - I met BWS at MegaCon in 2002. A true highlight!

Nice story, glad to see you started reading Valiant when it was still in glory days.

One of my favorite covers. Really brings back that "Valiant feeling".
19) VALIANT WILL RETURN.
It'll be a celebration of complete chaos and destruction.
It'll be a glorious time of weeping. The earth will shift on its axis.

It was Magnus that pulled me in, but Solar is respectable. :)
