Don't sweat it Slym, I don't think many people could compete with some of the kids I ran into at my new school.
We have the highest Calculus scores in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!
No joke!
Some of these kids are machines. They come to school early to do homework and study, they do school work at lunch, after school.
All work and no play
But pretty cool kids to talk to none the less.

You'd probably do pretty well. A lot of kids who are in college these days do not take it seriously. Older students who go back to college after several years of life experience usually wind up greatly outperforming younger ones who go straight out of high school.slym2none wrote:I'd go back to college... but I couldn't compete with these kids nowadays. School is QUITE different than it was 20 years ago!

Going to class wasn't our first priority while attending college...
Or our second, third, or even forth.
But we finally got it together, or at least I did.

Slym you should go to school if you want to, just take one class and see if you like it.
I would love to go back to school, but I have not been in a classroom since my masters classes, about 5 years ago.
(after I got rid of the polutiants, I actually became a pretty good student, if I say so myself )
Just do it Slym!

I definitely remember you turning into a good student when you were a little older and a little wiser. I think I even remember the exact point at which I noticed the shift. It was my senior year when you were giving the class presentation on some topic having to do with the environment. I ran into you at the Pub/Student Center right before your presentation. You had it drawn up on butcher block paper with big, colorful drawings. That was the first time I ever saw you take a class project seriously, and I don't think you ever let up from there.Elveen wrote:Bono you know about this firat hand, of course YOU were a great student, but some of your homies (including myself) well...You'd probably do pretty well. I have other memories too, many from parties at the Hill and at the Cambridge house, but we don't need to get into all of that.Elveen wrote:Nice memory Bono
Now of course the sad thing is that I didn't get serious until YOUR senior year....
and I am one year older than you...
and we both started college right our of high school.
Oh well, I wouldn't change a thing about my life now. (well maybe just a few things )

Au contraire....I'll bet these kids are having a ball. Anyone dedicated that much to something obviously enjoys the *SQUEE* out of it.Elveen wrote:Don't sweat it Slym, I don't think many people could compete with some of the kids I ran into at my new school.

Which is why I never had any problems rehearsing a show from the AM till after midnight.

As far as college...I, obviously a fairly bright person, nearly flunked out of my Senior year of high school.
My family was melting down into oblivion, and I just didn't care about anything anymore.
My teachers all gave me D- just so I could graduate.
Even still, I graduated with a 3.1.
Took two complete years off from school, just worked, lived life, saw what there was to see....
Went back to school when I found a focus and a place to express it....
Graduated Summa *SQUEE* Laude with a 3.92 with two BAs in 4.5 years (I aced everything except....Freshman English Lit! I waited until the second semester of my Senior year before taking it, and the teacher was only 5 years older than me....and she thought she knew what she was talking about. I settled for the only "C" I got in college. )
So....I'm all in favor of not compelling young adults to go directly into college. The Europeans have gap years practically institutionalized.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
