X-O Manowar #1/2 Gold - CGC census jump 8/18/2020

Post by greg »

After 20 years of CGC grading in the 8/11/2020 CGC census, there were 68 copies of X-O Manowar #1/2 Gold graded with 23 in CGC 9.8.

As of the 8/18/2020 CGC Census, there are now 86 copies of X-O Manowar #1/2 Gold graded with 39 in CGC 9.8.

16 new CGC 9.8 copies graded in one week. Whoever was holding the supply of these clearly sent some (all?) to CGC.

This is fabulous news! I really, really want one, but not willing to pay the ridiculous prices they have been selling for recently.

I remember years ago, maybe around 2008, the original publisher, maybe Wizard ??, discounted their remaining undistributed copies which appears to be ended up being a case or more for IIRC between $8 -$20 a copy so I imagine there are some who are sitting on handfuls of this book.

Sure but they all have condition issues! Well maybe not 39 of them but the rest! This book is printed on terrible paper, wavy, easily torn at the spine. I am shocked we got to 39. Given there was uncirculated stock, it should be many hundreds.

It’s really hard to get this in 9.8. The book is terrible. Most copies I see in the wild are F at best. Even the regular issue.

I have all but one of the original art pages for this book. I have the gold in 9.8 by CBCS, but the completionist in me wants CGC. :!:

If it was untouched stock then pressing could do wonders to get an infusion of this many new 9.8s

The old stock was not clean or minty, unfortunately. VF+ at best.

I am hoping one of those is mine (probably not-as I am waiting for the presser to send to CGC). I got a raw copy and submitted it in mid July to a presser who will submit for me.

Book has been pressed and is in the mail to CGC. Looking forward to getting it in December (CGC looks really busy with all of the events they have planned)?

Thank you. From purchasing this book raw, to having it pressed and having it submitted by the Comic Book Presser it has been exciting. Glad to have it in my collection. Now it's time to find that Secrets of Valiant Universe Wizard Edition. :P
