Won my CGC 9.8 grail today at ComicLink.

Super happy to get the book. The last copy in this grade sold for 36% more so very happy my bid held.

Thanks for all the kind words. I am very stoked about finally getting a high grade copy. It has eluded me for years. Usagi, the Barks/Rosa Ducks and Valiant have always held a special place in my heart.

Magnus the more I learn about you the more I like you! . While I don’t have a Usagi I have loved meeting and talking with Stan. Seeing Don Rosa is always a pleasure (and here in the states I get to spend lots of time talking to him!) and I love I have a couple of Cgc ss books by him. I will never forget the first time I tried to get one he told me no. He doesn’t support Cgc at all. He said that the next time I come don’t tell him, so that’s what I did! Lol. Of course they will never leave my collection but Life and Times is one of the greatest stories ever done imo. Last but not least Scrooge McDuck is my all time favorite duck (my great grandfather was Scottish! :D ) so growing up I always gravitated towards him. :D , so one of my most treasured Cgc ss is a reprint of Scrooge 1 (the actual number escapes my mind right now) verified Carl Barks sig! I will always remember you for the “art wars” lol. Great addition to your impressive collection!

Thanks for the kind words. If you don't have any Usagi books I can highly recommend them. Start with the Special Edition (double TPB/HC set) from Fanatgraphics and then read the 8 Saga HC/TPB from Darkhorse and it will mostly get you up to date. Grasscutter in particular is a great read and worthy of the awards it won. (Much like the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck).

The Barks/Rosa Ducks I have always enjoyed. I still remember buying my first Barks story at the Five & Dime in the small town next to our farm. While I have interacted with Stan over email/his message board I never had the pleasure of meeting Barks or Rosa. I have only seen Rosa on TV/Youtube but he seems like an interesting guy.

I am a bit surprised Rosa dislikes CGC given he slabbed 1000's of his copper age books when he sold them (although I do know he had a buddy help him with that). I assume he will do the same if he ever sells his golden age and silver age books. A sample grabbed off eBay.

I guess I should not tell him I am 1 book short from probably completing the first run of CGC 9.8 copies of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. (If he is worried I can't read the story I have unslabbed floppies, the Artist sized version, the Boom Hardcovers, the Fantagraphics Hardcovers and it is in the Don Rosa library). Perhaps even worse is I have asked CGC to make a set in the registry of all the Don Rosa USA covers as I have been picking many of them up in CGC 9.8 https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/ ... /#comments

I am likely a bit weird in that I have few CGC comics that I do not have raw copies of as I still believe comics are for reading. I suppose my VEI books are an exception as I do not feel the need to have raw copies of each variant cover.

I have a number of Barks signatures - some of the Another Rainbow books in the bookshelf in the picture have his signature and the Mickey Mouse in Color Book (hard to to see on top of the Complete Carl Barks Library in the photo) has Floyd Gottfredson's signature too.

That’s really incredible. When the time comes (if ever! Lol) I will look into those because I like to support nice people and Stan certainly is super nice. I know about the Don Rosa collection, which always puzzled me too. I think the reason may be it is easier to sell and no haggling, where as when he signs a book he wants it to be for a fan rather than someone to make money off it. I am only speculating because he doesn’t charge anything for his sig, and he like to personalize them. I too have started to collect those stories in 9.8 but I have so many quirky collecting habits I don’t know how soon I will get that done! . I am also the same way with my graded books, I have to have floppies to go with them, so I can show people why I love the books so much! :D . I love Cgc mostly to show off my sign and protect my favorite books for display.
