Link to asking CGC to add a registry set

Post by StarBrand »

Could someone please post a link to where I would ask CGC to add a set to the registry?

You have to make a post on the registry forums (the link Greg provided). Make sure you detail the books you are requesting in the set and then sit back and forget you made the request. I've also been able to get some setwork done via email, but that was specifically because it involved some books that were terribly mislabeled.

On that note, CGC's Ultimate Iron Man registry set is a disaster of untold proportions that can never be fixed. They've been grading those books for years without ever discerning between the variant covers. Such an incredible disappointment. Between that and a few other examples I have seen, it's no wonder why so many people have walked away from the CGC registry.

I've purposely entered a variant in a regular spot (or vice versa), and it prompts that they will look into it. It forces them to take a look at it, and make corrections to the set. Seems to work a little faster than that stupid post they never look at, nor update

Ya, this Ultimate Iron Man thing is a complete cluster *SQUEE*. I've already been in contact with Mollie from CGC and basically they can't fix it because of how they've been grading that series incorrectly for years. They reviewed my request for like 2 weeks.

Yes, including a 9.9, but CGC never paid attention to that run's variants, and so the variants aren't seperated, but instead just noted as "Two Different Covers Exist" although they never discern between the two. CGC also never properly allocated the various printings either, so the whole registry set is screwed up. I'd have the top set in the census if it wasn't for that.

That sucks. It seems like they could figure out a way to correct that if they really wanted to. It’s cool you have that set though.

Thanks! But it's an unremarkable modern set other than it being high grade (all 9.8's with a 9.9 included). It's the kind of thing an Iron Man fan like myself would be into, but it doesn't go much further than that. Having the top set on the registry just adds a little bit of prestige.

But that mini-series was done with cardstock covers and so on, so if, for some reason there was an aftermarket push for those books, I'm sure the population of 9.8's would go up quite a bit. I'm more proud of my Quasar books... :) LOL!

Will they notify me when they’ve added the set to the registry?

Nope. You just have to remember. They usually cross out the set request, or add notes. I recently asked for a few books to be added to existing sets. Sometimes they agreed with me, other times not. I'm right of course. :D

What do you find to be the most unusual sets in the registry? I just saw a request for a set to be made featuring the first appearance of different types of Kryptonite.

Once Mollie "Likes" or "loves" your request post, that means the set has been added or is somehow been worked on.

Are any of the VEI sets any good besides the Gold cover set. By good I mean include all the different covers and are accurate. I generally put my VH1 and Star Wars Action figure covers in but have about 500 VEI slabs I have not entered as so many of the VEI sets seem incomplete/I can’t really figure out which cover goes where.

Do your initial entries with your best available book. When it comes to the set building, CGC doesn't recognize hoards, but they will allocate the best available book that you've registered.
Add all of your books to the most standard sets that are there - i.e., all of Archer & Armstrong to the most mundane A&A set.
Then go and look for compiled sets (i.e., "Valiant gold") and allocate what you've registered elsewhere to those.
From there, if there is a set that you think should be included, make a post on the CGC forums and include a book list for that set.
Then sit back and wait until they build the set, or like my Ultimate Iron Man fix request, send you an email explaining that it's hopeless.

Anyone know how long it’s taking right now for them to respond to new set requests?

A. Long. Time.
Just go to the request thread and go back a few pages. Start looking for posts where Mollie has "liked" the request and that will give you an idea of where they are at.

Is Mollie’s ID there “The girl has no name”?

Looks like it’s taking about two months to get a set added to the registry after requesting it.

You should try getting them to change the Registry point value of a comic sometime lol!
