Are these worth pressing/cleaning by CGC

I don’t have experience pressing or cleaning low grade books, but I’d like to encapsulate these two, obviously with the best grade possible. I’m leaning towards no, but would love some advice. Thx! The Avengers is literally a rag, barely holding on. I still read it though!

I wouldn't press the Avengers book at all. Leave it as is and just have it slabbed so that it presents nicely, or put it into a mylite 2 with a fullback or two halfbacks for rigidity.
The Sgt. Fury book might see a boost to a higher low-grade tier if the press takes nicely, but only if your front cover scan is indicative of the structural integrity of the rest of the book. But with that said, in the starting grade it's in, I wouldn't press that one either. It's an easy book to find and you can pick up a 9.0 for under a grand, and a structurally nice mid-grade copy for under a hundred bucks.

So to be honest, I wouldn't invest any more money into either one of those particular copies. The Avengers book is so structurally debilitated that pressing it might actually take it apart. Just put them in mylites and enjoy them for what they are! :thumb:

Thanks, both! I'll pass on press/clean, but I do want to encapsulate the Avengers 1. I'll feel better it being in a slab. The other, I might go the bag route.

It might fit in a mill case. It still looks pretty square. If it does fit, you'll save yourself the slabbing fees. Just trying to give you another option. I've had some success with millcases.

Those are sweet! I’ve never heard of them. That does sound like something worth exploring. I have some mid grade silver that it might make sense to use those, like my Flash 123. I may test a few of those.

These mill cases are mass produced hard clamshells. This means that they are very square, so books that have that flattened spines and are therefore out of square won't fit in them properly. On that note they are a good tool to judge the structural, true squareness of your books.

I custom made the labels, although I think that the mill case website had a label template I began with. It was years ago now that I think about it.
