Serpentor's CGC Results Thread

I sent in some books that I thought would be excellent candidates for 9.6/9.8 without pressing, and I am happy to say every one of them hit the 9.8 grade! Books marked with (NFS) are titles I will not consider selling. I just thought I would add that distinction since some collectors looking here might wonder if I will part with anything. It avoids wasted time messaging about books I do not want to sell. My next submission is in process (15 books), and I will share results when those come in. After that, I will have a huge load consisting of 71 books going through.

Secret Weapons 1 6/17 Pre-Order Edition 9.8
Secret Weapons 2 7/17 Pre-Order Edition B 9.8
Secret Weapons 3 8/17 Pre-Order Edition 9.8
Secret Weapons 4 9/17 Pre-Order Edition 9.8
Secret Weapons 1 6/17 Hitch Cover 9.8
X-O Manowar 1 3/17 Larry's Comics Edition 9.8
X-O Manowar 2 4/17 Larry's Comics Edition 9.8
X-O Manowar 1 3/17 Rocafort Cover 9.8
Walking Dead 1 10/15 Wizard World Austin Edition 9.8
Rai and the Future Force 9 5/93 Gold Cover 9.8 (NFS)
Shadowman 0 4/94 Gold Cover 9.8 (NFS)
X-O Manowar 1 2/92 9.8 (NFS)

Thank you. I was very happy to see a full screen of 9.8's! I had hoped one might hit 9.9, but I have no complaints.

Thank you!

Updated the second batch with grades. I'm super stoked to see my ASM 194 and Rai 0 Glossy get 9.8's. I bought the ASM 194 last summer for $171.50 as an estimated 9.4 on ebay. Joey at CFP Comics and Services worked his magic with the press, and here we are :)

Looks like it might be in 9ish territory with a press and clean, based solely on the scan.

*Updated 8/27 due to misunderstanding the rep over the phone. I called while it was in the "quality control" phase and got the grade over the phone. I thought she said white pages, but now it is "shipped/safe" and shows OW/W.*

The grade is in. 9.4 OW/W :D

This is now the best book in my collection.

Results are in for my recent 71 book submission! Most of these are garbage books to a lot of people, but they are what I grew up with. Some may not be the junk they are assumed to be, such as Transformers G2 #12 ($425 in 9.8) and G.I. Joe #155 ($350 in 9.8). I will group them to save space.

Beavis and Butt-Head (Marvel, 1994)
9.8 - 1

G.I. Joe (Marvel, 1982)
9.8 - 138 (x2), 139, 140 (x3), 141 (x2), 142 (x2), 155

Transformers (Marvel 1984)
9.4 - 18, 60, 72, 73, 80, and 1 (3rd print)
9.6 - 13, 52, 55, 56, 62, 71, 74, 76
9.8 - 22, 51, 63, 64, 67, 69

Transformers Generation 2 (Marvel 1993)
9.4 - 3
9.6 - 2
9.8 - 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Transformers Regeneration One (IDW, 2012)
9.4 - 100 Page Spectacular RI, 84 RI,
9.6 - 81 RI, 83 RI, 85 RI, 87 RI, 91 RI, 92 RI, 94 RI,
9.8 - 0 RI (x2), 80.5, 81 RI, 82 RI, 86 RI, 88 RI, 89 RI, 90 RI, 91 RI, 93 RI, 95 RI, 96 RI, 97 RI, 98 RI, 99 RI, 100 RI

Turok (Valiant, 1993)
9.8 - 1 Gold Cover

Some nice looking books there. Think I am the same generation as I appreciate the Transformers and GIJoe books. First book I bought with my own money was Transformers 9 (I still have the book). Would love to get a copy in 9.8 but as it was Canadian newsstand cover I am not holding my breath.

Thanks! If you have any interest in some of the extra GI Joe books, I only need to keep one of each. I'll check my extra Transformers books to see if I have a Canadian #9. Oddly enough, I bought a lot of early $1.00 Canadian variants a while back, and some are quite nice.

I am trying to hold off on the GI Joe as I don’t want to chase down 155 slabs but might pick up the first 10 and would like a 52 in CGC 9.8.

Transformers I am planning to do 1-21 but only have issues 1 and 12 so far in 9.8. If you had a number 9 Canadian variant that would grade out 9.8 and you get it slabbed I would be most interested. I bought a number 9 slabbed a decade ago but didn’t realize until recently that it was direct market and my original copy was the Canadian variant (it was actually my 9 year old daughter who noticed the difference when I had both books laying out).

Updated 1/16/19 with grades

Just got invoiced for my most recent submission. It's going to be a long 5-6 week long wait for these (except for ASM 194 which is going through on a faster track). I have high hopes for the ASM 194. It's nicer than one that I already got a 9.8 on! I also feel good about the 1993 Transformers G2 Halloween books. There is currently only one 9.8 in the census, and all 10 of these have the potential to hit 9.8. They have been safely stored away in pristine shape since '93, and there aren't many to be found in nice shape due to their overly large size and newsprint covers. They were giveaways, but now they sell for almost $200 each in average condition!

10x Marvel Transformers Generation 2 nn 10/93 Halloween Special Edition ALL 10 got 9.8 White Pages!

ASM 194 just hit "Scheduled for Grading," so the results should come soon! It was submitted on the Standard tier while all of the others in my previous post were on the Modern tier.

ASM 194 got a 9.8 with white pages! Not bad for a $400 investment. The rest should be graded in a few weeks.

Awesome result! Did you risk $400 on a raw copy online or were you able to examine it first?

I went into PayPal to make sure I was remembering the numbers correctly. I actually paid a total of $329 for the book. It was $380, an ebay coupon took $57 off, and shipping was $6. The cost of pressing, mailing it to and from the presser, grading, and shipping to and from CGC brings it to approximately $450 total. It was a raw copy with nothing more than pictures to go on, but the pictures were very good. I thought it had a good chance at 9.8, with 9.6 being a lock. Figuring I would be able to get even or better even with a 9.6, I rolled the dice. I was unhappy with my previous 9.8 copy of this book because it looked no better than a 9.6 to me. I'll be keeping this one :D .

Nice work! I am too chicken to try something like that, so I paid $316 shipped and this is all I have to show for it. :P

It's a nice pick up at that price. If the movie is good, that's worth a triple at least.

Updated the post with all grades. Some of these will find a long term home in my collection. Finding an X-O Manowar 1/2 Gold capable of a 9.8 was quite a chore since most copies have a defect of some sort. Getting an Acclaim Bloodshot #3 in 9.8 was also tough. The Botcon exclusive Beast Wars comic from 1997 is also an extremely tough score in high grade, and mine got a 9.8. Most amazingly, I now hold 10 of the 19 existing 9.8 copies of the Transformers G2 Halloween comic (not counting signature series books). It's a $100+ book in mid-grade, and it only had nine copies at 9.8 before I found a guy who squirreled away ten raw NM+ copies.
