There are more New Universe slabs on eBay right now than I've ever seen before. There's not a ton of them, but I've only seen maybe one or two at a time before.

From my personal collection, my Splatterball 2nd edition in CGC 9.6. I purchased this raw from board member Doorman via eBay. He had it graded NM, and when it arrived I thought it was a 9.8 candidate and submitted it. Even though it came back a 9.6, I suspect it's going to be hard to get copies slabbed at 9.6.
Despite my stating this was a second print in my notes, CGC incorrectly decided this is Splatterball #2, which doesn't exist.

Interesting. I believe I have a quiet a few Defiant in a box somewhere. Need to see if they are submission worthy.

What's driving the cost? Low print runs?

I think interest in New Universe books recently getting slabbed is driven at least in part by Star Brand and Nightmask finding their way into the current Marvel universe.
Other than maybe a few select Defiant slabs such as Birth of the Defiant universe, I'm not sure there's much driving Defiant slabs up yet. As an experiment, a year or two ago I listed a Dark Dominion 10 in CGC 9.8 on eBay for 49.99 and it sold. I believe the market will be there for Defiant slabs. I've always believed in Defiant back issues. The quality is there and at some point that will be recognized.

I found my old Defiant box. There wasn't as much as I remember, but I think I have all or most of the number #1's ;

Dark Dominion, Warriors of Plasma, Birth of the Defiant Universe, The Good Guys, Charlemagne, Dogs of War and War Dancer.

I gave them a quick once over and all seem to be at least a 9.2+. I think I'll send them in with my next CGC order.

I wouldn't bother grading any Defiant slabs unless they were 9.8 candidates. Then a press might give you a better success, but if it's less than a 9.8, you are likely to lose money in the end, and you can probably get these books in high grade for $.50.

I agree, although some Defiants you'd be lucky to find in NM for .50.

I hear that, I just like the idea of MY books being high grades. I'm a snob that way I suppose. :)

I'm planning to send off some Defiants for slabbing next week. Haven't really worked out which ones yet, but will probably send off my two Splatterball non-foil variants, which I consider to be the holy grail of Defiant. Also will probably send off a couple Dark Dominion 7s, which is the first JG Jones pro work. Beyond that, I might send off some later Warriors of Plasms and a few others.
I'll post in this thread what I send off when I do so.
Defiants are going to grow in respect and demand. Mark my words.

Here's the Splatterball non-foil variant, which I consider to be the Bloodshot 0 Platinum of Defiant. Extremely difficult to find. If anyone has one, I'd be interested in seeing a pic. I'd like to get a better feel of just how rare this is.
It's possible this was a test, or proof run by the printer.

I just searched for individual Splatterball raw comics. None available on eBay. None available at mycomicshop. Mile High has the Splatterball first printing available in VF.
The last time I checked for this issue, which was a few months ago, there were a few available on eBay, and mycomicshop had the first and second print in stock. This book may be drying up. (Remember, there is also a non-foil variant of this book, which I posted about earlier in this thread, but it's extremely rare I see that for sale anywhere.)

Another interesting Defiant tidbit, JG Jones did the cover to Dogs of War #2. I believe that is either the second or third cover he did, depending on whether it was released before Dark Dominion #8.

There's a chance I might get a New Universe book or two slabbed in my next batch, and perhaps even a Dark Horse Gold Key (dark-key) Shooter book or two.

I have some 'Dark Keys' in the 9.8 submission pile as well. No idea when I'll do it though.
