My first CGC submission= Success!

Post by lobo »

So I sent in my first submission to CGC back in November. Nearly 80 books under 3 invoices. All moderns sent in for a 9.8 pre-screening. I received 2 boxes today for 2 of the invoices and 60 books. The third invoiced lot of books isn't here yet.
But what's important is all the Valiants I submitted came back. Of 60 total books only 5 were rejected, so I'm happy.

Here is the list:

9.8

Rai #0 x2
Rai #1
Rai #3
XO #6 x2
Unity #0 RED
Unity #1
Unity #1 gold x2
Deathmate Yellow gold x4
Deathmate Black gold
Deathmate Previews Pink x2
Predator vs. Magnus #1 Platinum
Ninjak gold
Eternal Warrior Gold embossed
Magnus #1 x2
Magnus #4
Magnus #14
Solar #1
Solar #2
Solar #3 x2
Solar #8
Solar 10 2nd print
Shadowman #1
Rai #7
Eternal Warrior #1
Eternal Warrior#2
Shadowman #4
XO #7
XO #8
Geomancer #8
Ninjak v.2 #2

Also....
John Byrne's Next Men #1
300 #4 (thought this book stood the best chance for a 10)
All Star Batman and Robin #10 recalled variant
Ghost Rider v.2 #3
Ghost Rider v.2 #13
Ghost Rider v.2 #18 x2

9.9

Deathmate Previews Advanced Comics x3
Eternal Warrior #1
XO #8
Rai #7

10.0

Deathmate Previews Advanced Comics x3

:thumb:

Of note were of course the Deathmate Previews (advanced comics, GREEN). I sent in 6 and they all came back either 9.9 or 10.
The 2 Rai #7s (9.8 and 9.9) are mislabeled with 'XO Manowar #7' and it looks like that census carries the same mistake.

Good question. I've only accumulated a handful over the years. The 6 that I had, I picked out of the 7-8 that I own. I have a ton of the pink previews but hardly any of those even came close to making the cut. Obviously I sent only the 2 that got 9.8 :hm:

Ironically, I bought a Deathmate Previews Advanced CGC 9.9 off the 'Bay earlier this year. So now I own 4.

Don't you have the Shadowman #1 CGC 9.9? I was a little ticked I didn't bid higher on that one.... :P

I own 8 CGC 9.9 Valiants now. But I still would love a pre-unity in the 9.9 or 10 range. :!:

Yes it would be... but alas I've yet to see a raw book Harb #1 that could qualify for even 9.8 :!:

Getting 10%+ of your sub back as 9.9s and 10s is, well, extremely unusual to say the least. Add in the fact that these are 90's books, and well it's pretty much :o.

I have to think that if many of these were untouched overstock the Canadian guys must treat their overstock much better than the US guys. We treat it like dirt.

Or they came out of speculator hoards where everything was treated well.

I can tell you that possibly 75% of more of these books came from American sources and not Canada. Some copies are from my personal hoard, but most of those copies weren't bought fresh off the newsstands but from comic lots and other hoards years later. Who knows how many times these copies were handled before I got them.
Keep in mind that for each and every 9.9 and 10 I've submitted I've probably pre-screened 200-300 books to find it. I don't know if that is the norm or not.

With that said, I probably have 50-60 long boxes of HG and premium books to pre-screen mostly 80s vintage and up. So I can only hope that I can score a few dozen more 9.9s and 10s. :hope:

I've already submitted most of my best Valiants though.

The Deadpool #2 CGC 10 is going up for auction BTW. Right now is probably the peak market for anything Deadpool before the Wolverine movie comes out.

Does anyone have any census values for this book? I have no real good guess what this book could be sold for...

Considering its a 10.0, I'd probably start with a buy it now at $500 some with a best offer option.

Well Greg will be keeping watch on the numbers, but that's ancecdotal evidence that there is a different perspective on 9.9s and 10s at CGC. Fortunately the census numbers will let us know soon enough.
