CGC Valiant inventory - Who would be interested?
I just wanted to get a "show of hands" for guys who would be interested
in having an inventory for CGC graded books.
So far, there are just over 1,000 Valiant books that have been CGC graded,
but I would guess that a nice portion of those are in the hands of guys
who use this messageboard.
Questions:
1) Would you be interested in a "CGC registry" for just Valiant books
on the ValiantComics.com website? (Like the current inventory database)
2) About how many CGC graded Valiant books do you have?

I think it is a good idea. That way we might know if certain books are still in population instead of being oened by board members.
I currently only have 14 CGC books. All pre Unity. But I also have @ 30 being graded now by CGC.

sounds good to me greg...i'm intrigued by the cgc concept although i disagree with the prices some of these books are pulling down.
what i've found is that "lower" graded cgc books are going cheap as hell.
i got a harbinger #1 with coupon that was graded at 6.5 (although the huge scan on the guys auction showed NO major defect and none were listed on the label) for $18 and an armorines #0 gold graded at 8.5 for $15.
either one of these books not in the cgc package would have sold for more then that. the guys didn't even make back the price of getting them cgc'ed when they sold.

Those books would have only sold for more if the seller had mis-graded those books. Since they must have been pretty poor graders to begin with to send those books to CGC, I think that saved someone else the headache of overpaying for poorly graded books.got a harbinger #1 with coupon that was graded at 6.5 (although the huge scan on the guys auction showed NO major defect and none were listed on the label) for $18 and an armorines #0 gold graded at 8.5 for $15.

oops, forgot the main question. I'm interested in a CGC registry, the only problem is that it will probably end up causing me to spend more money trying to move up on the charts! :x
I don't have a lot of CGC books, I sold a few that I was able to pick up cheaply and make more by reselling. My CGC goals for Valiant are pretty tame right now. I like picking up what I feel are Valiant keys when I can get them for cheap as long as they are 9.4 or above. I have two Harbinger #0 Pinks in 9.4, a Solar #10 (1st) in 9.4, and Magnus #5 (1st Rai) and X-O #4 (1st Jack Boniface, Harbinger x-over) in 9.6. Some 9.8's closed at pretty low prices last week, but I didn't bid very high on them because they weren't really what I felt were key issues.
I have been thinking a lot about sending in books to CGC to have them graded, but the price is somewhat prohibitive for a small fish like me and CGC's turnaround times are pretty whack right now. I probably wouldn't use CGG as they seem shifty, and I like 3PG but no one else seems to respect them much.

sorry dude, but after what i've seen this weekend i have absolutely no faith whatsoever in cgc's grading. i saw a book that was an easy, easy 9.6 get a 7.0. i've worked in the industry for a good long while now and i may not be the best in the world at grading a book but i can damn sure tell the difference between a 7.0 and a 9+.Brother J wrote:Those books would have only sold for more if the seller had mis-graded those books. everyone can keep passing on these low grade cgc books, i'll take them because basically i'm getting the book for around or under guide and getting the cgc'ing for free.
i'll just crack them open...won't hurt my feelings none.

Thanks for the replies guys...
As far as CGC giving what appear to be "low" grades...
There are probably hidden defects causing those numbers.
If you have the serial number, you can call CGC and ask for the graders' notes.
They will tell you what the graders saw as far as defects go...
I saw the Harbinger 1 CGC 6.5 that you mentioned and it looked great...
that's one that I'd love to hear what the graders' notes were.
