Heather Antos leaving Valiant for IDW!

Post by Dallow Spicer1 »

The damage might already be done at Valiant and it might be too late to save the company but at last Heather Antos is leaving Valiant!

Good riddance to her and her roladex of C level creators. Good luck IDW.

Let the good times roll!! :high-five:

Addition by subtraction. Looking at her twitter you can barely tell she's even in comics.

The comics industry truly is amazing for continuing to hire people that take their previous work or company to new lows. Not something exclusive to just Antos, but it's amazing

It’s incredible. What’s in it for IDW? What have they seen in her Valiant work that’s made them think she can elevate their business?

Seems that senior IDW management, like Valiant’s before them, have been sold the myth that there’s a new woke comic buying audience out there that Antos can deliver with her famous roladex.

I am happy for both Heather and Valiant. I hope she finds what she is looking for at IDW and is not just using them as another stepping stone, to ruin that company before moving on to Marvel or DC.

So that "rumor" about Valiant comics being licensed to IDW was actually about Heather Antos leaving Valiant and joining IDW?

What a turn of events!

So does Valiant have a replacement or is it just the end?

They already had 2 or 3 ‘senior’ editors for 2 books at at time so I think they’re good for the time being when it comes to replacing Antos. Definitely quantity over quality has been Valiant’s approach for editors in the last couple of years.

Honestly, this seems like a better fit for her. Only books I read from IDW are Sonic and the occasional TMNT collection so I'm relatively free from her influence. And Valiant will surely be better off for it.
Manga, comics, who cares? They're pretty much the same thing.

David Wohl was hired as a senior editor nine months ago. That's the same title that Heather had. I'm guessing this was a planned replacement and it just got delayed due to the pandemic.

And Lysa Hawkins is a senior editor...3 senior editors for next to no books!

I can't imagine any of these folks are working full time. These are PT gigs, probably on a freelance basis.

Honestly, I think Heather is better off without Valiant. Who would want to work somewhere that isn't publishing your projects? I would find that endlessly frustrating. At least IDW pushes out stuff all the time.

This is the correct healthy attitude to take.

And then they talk about how hard it is to break in. It's all such *SQUEE*. It really boils down to whether or not someone is in the mood to read your pitch at that time. The amount of story ideas I've had over the years just from being in the hobby is ridiculous - the next good idea always just comes up. But in all of the writing I used to do, I never bothered with a pitch because I don't want to deal with corporate-nerd-politicism.
