So, I just got my copies 1-4 of Eniac. I see that there has already been 466 of issue #1 graded by CGC (almost all 9.8s, with an incredible number of 35 CGC 9.9s). With all the talk of only one per customer I was thinking issue #1 would have a very low print run of less than 600 or so. But, with 466 copies already graded…. Does anyone have an idea of the actual print run? Even if the print run was 2000; that would mean that over 23% have already been graded.

I would imagine that the issue had at least a 4k print run, if not more. Wasn't there like 100 plus stores at launch? If stores were getting 40 issues (not unheard of) and some got cut by us much as 50%. I think that as good as a guess at we will get. Maybe someone else has a better guess?

154 stores for the Eniac launch, both shops in Modesto had 75 & 115 copies of the 1st Print in there stores.

I'm thinking something closer to to 8K in a print run IMO and I'm probably not close.

That is a lot of comics to put that “heavy gloss varnish” finish on the covers that was said to be hand done and have to let the books lay out and dry for a day or so. Where are you gonna spread out all those books? 8k would be only issue #1… did they do this for multiple issues? My issue #1 seems a lot glossier than the others.

Only one way this riddle is solved.

Someone is going to need to talk to Dinesh, Warren, or Atom for confirmation.

Ok… I’ll bark up another tree….
The 2013 Shadowman issue #10 Rossmo 1:25 variant doesn’t seem to be for sale anywhere. Why? Is it that rare… or are they all being hoarded?

As far as I know…. There are no first appearances in this issue that would make it a sleeper….Correct? What am I missing here?

A 9.6 was just sold for less than $60 one week ago. 1 bid only.

No first appearance but (initial) origin of the Shadow Loa revealed and widely considered one of the best SM issues by Justin Jordan (and VEI).

How about the X-O Manowar VEI issue #1 error comic…. I believe it is a second printing (with the error on the inside saying it is a “first printing”). Were these caught and kept? Or, did some of the errors get out to the public? In other words, Is it worth checking these second printing comics out in the wild for the error(or, is there no chance since possibly no errors were distributed to shops)? Anyone in the “know” on this one?

I have a few of the Second Printing (and none are errors). Has anyone “discovered” one of these errors? I suspect these were immediately discovered as an error… but who knows?

Is Dinesh posting this info somewhere? How does 900 for the 2nd print compare to the first printing (I would guess that the 2nd prints for most VEI comics would have less copies than the first printings :? )?

He didn't say. He did say that the 2nd print wasn't really warranted, but they loved the cover, suggesting that they printed enough to meet demand. I remember reading somewhere that the numbers for the A cover were a greater proportion than a typical issue (probably because of people like me, that pre-ordered a ton).

Hmm, this seems rather high.....for an item that was sent to retailers for not returning their large orders ("of 100 copies or less").

Or, I'm not fully understanding the returnability policy.

Whatever "less" means?

I'd say that the lenticular effect on the cover would have probably made it more practical to order 2,500, since 1) that's still half of the old Valiant gold editions of 5,000, 2) the book was going to be "neat" (because chromium, metal, and glass covers didn't exist yet), 3) more people are going to want one than just the retailers, and 4) rules for what retailers must do don't set limits on the publisher, rules only set limits on the retailers.
