Has Shadowman and Voodoo crossed into regular VU ?
Aside from that time in Quantum and Woody in the museum.
I'm listening to OTV #161 about QW 9 thru 12, and they mention how both Shadowman and QW aren't usually much involved in the wider VU.
That was then. Besides Punk Mambo, which is really a Shadowman title in a way, anything else? I

You mean Shadowman appearing in other books?
- Ninjak's Operation: Deadside (as the Magpie)
- Rapture (as the Magpie)
- Shadowman helping Bloodshot in Salvation
As for voodoo lore
- Baron Samedi in Bloodshot Salvation (#8, I think)
- Nyaxia possessing Bloodhound in Bloodshot Salvation #10-12
- the Shadow Loa in 4001 AD (and recurring in FFF)
- Ninjak's Operation: Deadside (as the Magpie)

There was also the Shadowman cult in Bloodshot RebornSunlight on Snow wrote:You mean Shadowman appearing in other books?

Does his Stalinverse appearance count?

The Shadowman Cult only appeared in a false memory but it was planted there by PRS.
The Stalinverse was part of the regular VU when someone was messing with it.
Good catches!

I even realized another. Wouldn't any appearance of Master Darque or Roku be an outgrowth of Shadowman/Voodoo in some sense?Sunlight on Snow wrote:The Shadowman Cult only appeared in a false memory but it was planted there by PRS.

But these are all updates I was missing after listening to that old OTV. Thanks!

It depends. It's a thin line really: Religion (voodoo), (dark) magic, supernatural, and whatever you believe in between.Oxmyx wrote:Wouldn't any appearance of Master Darque or Roku be an outgrowth of Shadowman/Voodoo in some sense?
Master Darque is a villain to many; not just Shadowman--especially not in VEI.
And Roku is more of an adversary to Ninjak than Shadowman.
To me, Master Darque and whatever happened to Angelina Alcott is more supernatural than voodoo because no Loa was involved.

Re: Has Shadowman and Voodoo crossed into regular VU ?
I dunno though, the VU frames 'voodoo' as only one blanket term for manipulation of necromantic energy and/or interaction with Deadside elements as I interpret it, so it all pretty much falls under 'necromantic energy' in my book, whether it's Shadowman doing his 'voodoo' thing, Dr. Mirage doing her 'life/death/Deadside' thing or Master Darque doing his 'magic' thingSunlight on Snow wrote:To me, Master Darque and whatever happened to Angelina Alcott is more supernatural than voodoo because no Loa was involved.

But shame on us, until you mentioned Dr Mirage no one had, and she's obvious in her current Deadside adventures. Would it be fair to say that the Deadside appears more in the VU than Shadowman?

Okay, I have to admit my first and last line didn't/don't make much sense there.Shadowman99 wrote:I dunno though, the VU frames 'voodoo' as only one blanket term for manipulation of necromantic energy and/or interaction with Deadside elements as I interpret it, so it all pretty much falls under 'necromantic energy' in my book, whether it's Shadowman doing his 'voodoo' thing, Dr. Mirage doing her 'life/death/Deadside' thing or Master Darque doing his 'magic' thingSunlight on Snow wrote:To me, Master Darque and whatever happened to Angelina Alcott is more supernatural than voodoo because no Loa was involved.
At the end of the day are Loa supernatural beings and everything will come down to being supernatural anyway.
However, I still believe there are different ways how to enter the Deadside and a difference should be made.
Shadowman has the burden/gift to be bonded to a Loa because he inherited it from his lineage.
For the Darques' abilities someone else has to die so they can use the released necromantic energy.
The others also use some sort of black magic but nobody needs to die hence it's just magic (instead of the n.e.).
And I don't think Valiant is framing all this as "voodoo" - quite the contrary. There is no mention of voodoo in the Darques' and Mirage's character info in the Handbook, for instance. The Darques are "Necromancers", Mirage is an "Occult Specialist", Shadowman is just bonded to a voodoo spirit and only Punk is labeled as a Voodoo priestess.

And Ninjak wouldn't be able to enter the Deadside without help from others (Punk).Oxmyx wrote:...or Ninjak doing his Deadside thing.
The suit's only meant for extra protection.
