Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

It has amazed me (I'm getting old) how much Janeway has shifted in popular opinion. I remember when Janeway was considered the worst Trek captain. Now she's a saintIMJ wrote:That picture makes it look like someone pasted Captain Janeway's face onto the hot Catwoman '66 body.....Oxmyx wrote:And there we have the etymology I do believeslym2none wrote:Blood of Heroes wrote:Does it look like this? But don't worry, I'll get us back on the topic of catsuits.....

Clearly you haven't been reading the internet lately. I agree with you but the Internet speaks it's own version of reality.
But thanks for the pic. That's good preparation for the ST: Picard show. I have no interest in watching it myself, but if I see good reviews I would probably change my mind.

Re: Do you think 'catsuit' is an appropriate term for Dr Mir
I have become more sympathetic to Janeway's bumbling across the Delta Quadrant as I have gotten older but I still disagree with the way she handled herself on a lot of levels. It seems like with Star Trek, the further you got from the Federation, the more interesting the characters got, which is why DS9 is my favourite Trek. Garak, Martok, Londo, Quark, Weyoun... the less Federation they were, the better.
I still blame Jeri Ryan for Obama.
She's no Jadzia. Or (the third) Ziyal.
That photo does not flatter Julie Newmar. Specifically that jpeg - I have seen better versions of it floating around.

Haven't read anything Star Trek related, anyway. Star Wars>Star Trek. (episodes 7,8,9 not withstanding)Oxmyx wrote:Clearly you haven't been reading the internet lately. I agree with you but the Internet speaks it's own version of reality.

The wife and I just finished a Voyager marathon. I had never seen the last 2 seasons in their entirety. That show really botched the ending. The last season was fun, though. Janeway is definitely the worst.
The wife has been watching Enterprise as well, but I can only stomach that show in small increments. Gonna get that free month of CBS All Access and watch Discovery.
DS9 remains the best Star Trek. It's not even close.

Re: Do you think 'catsuit' is an appropriate term for Dr Mir
I gave up on Voyager halfway through the first season. They totally botched the premise when they decided that the two crews were going to be one big happy family. There *should* have been all sorts of backstabbing, manipulation, and self-serving acts amongst the crew on both sides. The fact that they all needed each other to survive would have made controlling and disciplining the crew very interesting dramatically.lorddunlow wrote:The wife and I just finished a Voyager marathon. When I tried watching some years later, it seemed that they had indeed gone in that direction, when I saw "Year From Hell." But of course, they retroed all of that by the end of the 2-parter. If they were going to do the time fix thing, they should have at least let that run for a full season.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

When you watch, please let me know what you think, especially of Picard. I already know a lot of opinions about Discovery but hearing more is cool.lorddunlow wrote:The wife and I just finished a Voyager marathon... That show really botched the ending. The last season was fun, though...

But more importantly, I found a fanfic alternative ending for Voyager on YouTube that is absolutely stunningly beautiful. It's called PALE BLUE DOT

The guy who does the video I don't always agree with on his various topics, but this is brilliant.

Re: Do you think 'catsuit' is an appropriate term for Dr Mir
In 2004, Barak Obama challenged Jack Ryan for the open Senate seat from Illinois. Jack Ryan had been married to Jeri Ryan but they divorced prior to 2004 and both parties were interested in keeping the details quiet, so the divorce documents were sealed. During the campaign, the divorce details were unsealed without the consent of either party and leaked to the press - Jack Ryan was wanting to take Jeri to kinky sex clubs and threesomes and stuff - the kind of kinky thing we aren't supposed to judge people over anymore, but Jack Ryan quit the race in disgrace and the Illinois Republicans replaced him with Alan Keys, most famous for appearing in the Borat movie. Barak Obama wins the Senate race with something like 74% of the vote and is in a position where he could overcome the seemingly unkillable Clinton machine in 2008 for the Democrat nomination and ultimately the Presidency.Oxmyx wrote:Okay, you gotta explain this to me. Alan Keys is a terrible candidate. He sounds like Kermit the Frog when he speaks. In 2008, he sought the nomination of the Constitution party for the Presidency - he appeared personally at the Louisiana state convention and could not convince a majority of the 30 delegates there to support him, failing to get their state's nomination.
To place some context, in the same year that Jack Ryan's divorce documents were unsealed against his and his ex-wife's consent, John Kerry was running for President and his divorce documents remained sealed.

Well, wow, Chiclo, thanks. You're above and beyond as usual. Elucidation accepted. But what I don't get is how Jeri Ryan is to blame. I understand you are (mostly) joking. But is her only influence her putting her husband in this divorce situation in the first place? So are you suggesting she should have taken two dicks up the *SQUEE* for Lady Liberty?Chiclo wrote:In 2004, Barak Obama challenged Jack Ryan.Oxmyx wrote:Okay, you gotta explain this to me. Yes, her only involvement in the situation is having divorced Jack Ryan 5 years before he ran for Senate. After having refreshed myself on the details, it was mostly him wanting her to join him in performing sex acts in front of other folks at kinky clubs and such. Thanks for picking up the cheeky tone in which this bit of history is offered.

By that, Chiclo means “yes, I’m joking”.
But it sure is a bizarre coincidence that an actress from a Star Trek show in the nineties is tangentially related to Barack Obama’s rise to the presidency.

Re: Do you think 'catsuit' is an appropriate term for Dr Mir
Funny, but I hadn't heard all of the sex club stuff before. What I had read was the low ratings of Voyager led to the Obama presidency. Because the ratings led the show to shake things up a bit, including the addition of Jeri Ryan to the cast. And the shooting schedule for the show put a strain on her marriage, eventually ending it. And so on…
Of course, it's entirely possible that Obama would have beaten Jack Ryan anyway, so the whole theory is a bit of a stretch anyway.
